Hey guys, I'll be attending an hpde this coming weekend at summit point, my first track day with the shelby! They offer gt racing 100 octane at the pumps (along with 93) and I was wondering a few things. For those of you who have used race gas, or know how it works these are my questions I'd like answered;
1- Is it safe to use without tuning.
2-besides performance benefits, is it better for the car?
3-does the weather make a difference, it will be low to mid 90s.
4- is it worth the extra coin.
Thanks in advance

Interested in the replies. I have a race gas station by me as well and was considering it for occasional use in my GT 350 (once I get it lol)

1) yes
2) not really higher octane is more resistant to detonation which may or may not be an issue on the stock tune
3) higher temps make higher octane gas more important
4) I defer to others

Make sure it's not leaded gas

I'm pretty sure it's unleaded. I'm not so much concerned about the performance gains, my main concern is running the car hard at high temperatures, and from what I gather it seems using 100 octane will be beneficial, but correct me if I'm wrong guys...

It won't hurt, may or may not benefit but I'd run it

the factory tune will pick up on the octane difference. you will notice the difference. It will also smooth out throttle response.

I would run it. I think it is worth the price difference.

I know that voodooo feels the same. I think he has a 55 gallon drum in his garage just like i do.

the only time i run my car on 93 is when i go farther from home than a tank of gas will get me.

Its just going to run rich on 100 octane without a tune and is a waste of money.

Your basing this opinion on what?
Its no different than running 93 in a Carolla :)

Your car makes the most power buy running as lean as it can without detonating, when using more octane than required your going to make less power and get worse mileage, a tune is a diff story.

Yes sir. Like always we are on the same page. I run only Sunoco 260gt 100 octane. You will notice a bump in power on the stock tune. It's definitely worth it.

It will not run rich lol. And it is NOT a waste of money. It's and easy 15-18hp gain even on a stock tune.

Yeah on a 8.0:1 compression engine. We're talking a 12.0:1 engine here. Even on a stock tune the 5.2 voodoo has shown a 15-18 rwhp gain. Yes on a stock tune. It runs cooler and adds more timing. Plus it's a higher grade of fuel and leaves less carbon deposit

I don't see how, unless the computer actually detects the gas and adds timing.

The knock sensors will keep adding timing until it detects spark knock. The higher octane allows more timing. A perfect example of this is running 91 vs 93
