Has anyone received a speeding ticket lately? I just had one that costed me $355 in the 16-19 mph over range. At the moment, this equates to two to three days pay at my current job. All for going a little too quick on a clear highway with minimal traffic, but i digress.. I know ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law and I don't wish to discuss the moral ethics of the situation, or the situation, but does anyone have any advice for avoiding speeding tickets besides the obvious advice?
Let's be real here, we all drive fast cars which reach high speeds rather quickly and in my case slow down quickly (2015 GT PP). In my case it also draws a lot of attention from law enforcement being that I am a young guy in such a bold/high performance car, which can get really annoying. For instance I had a pickup truck with dark tinted windows for two years and never received any attention from law enforcement, but within two weeks of getting my 15' GT tinted, I received a citation for window tint. Unfortunately these cars do not always draw positive attention.
I am mostly writing this to vent some negative emotion, but to also get some perspective from other Mustang owners. Have you ever felt singled out because of the type of car you drive and/or your age? Just curious, I know i'm not the only one who has experienced this. Any other new S550 owners out there gathering some negative attention?
A little info: I'm a 22 yr old industrial electrician, I was working for a construction company at an oil refinery where my income was larger, I recently began working as a marine electrician in a ship yard where my income has gone down a little.

No speeding tickets, but I've been singled out because of what I drove. My last car was a modified SS Commodore (your Pontiac G8). Had it a couple years, sold it last year before I turned 23.

"Random" breath tests were common, they'd drive past going the other way, crack a U-turn (I would be driving normally). Once that happened and they did a "random" drug search of my car, which I was fine with - nothing to hide. But when I got back in the car I noticed that the female officer (who decided to do the whole bad cop thing) had gone through my phone which I'd left unlocked in the centre console. I didn't fail the attitude test, was having a mad chat to the male officer

Hoping I won't have the same issues with the GT when it arrives, but the corsa will be loud so not holding my breath haha

16-19 over isn't a range you're likely to get pity. At that point you have to be ready to pay the piper. Ive been pulled going well over 120 twice now and been lucky enough to get cool cops that gave me a warning but i know what I'm risking when i decide to be stupid. My best advice is always pull over immediately, get as far off the road as you can for the safety of the officer, and don't bullshit them and they will usually treat you right. I got tons of negative attention in all of my vehicles: expedition on 24s murdered out, lifted truck, the mustang. the only one that i flew under the radar was my 3 series even though it was faster than the stang. I am 22 as well

I've noticed the younger you are, the more likely you are to get singled out. My youngest brother a few years back was driving a 2006 Charger for a while. He was 21 at the time. He's going down the road and some idiot pulls out in front of him and the kid swerved out of the way into a dirt median to avoid wrecking into the guy. Everyone has a close call, and goes on their merry little way. Except a cop gets on his ass and follows him a few miles down the road, then pulls him over and tickets HIM for reckless driving. He fought that ticket and the cop didn't show up though, but probably figured he was young and easy pickings.

Sometimes your car definitely gets you singled out though. In my 2006 mustang the last time I got pulled over was leaving a Del Taco lot on a taco tuesday. No ticket came out of it, the cop just wanted to rattle my cage a bit. I pull up to the driveway exit, stop, and look down the street. I see a shitload of cars at a light, and they just get a green light. So I pulled out and just got on it really hard till I hit the 45mph speed limit, and stayed well ahead of the pack. One of the cars in the lead was a cop (it was dark, I just saw headlights and didn't recognize him for what he was lol). He pulls me over, and asks if I knew why he pulled me over. I still had my CA license and hadn't gotten around to changing to a UT one yet, because I was waiting on getting a replacement birth certificate in the mail and out here you need that to get your license even if you're just changing states. He tells me "I don't know what your laws are out in CA, but in UT you have to stop first at a parking lot exit before you get out on the street." I'm sitting there going dude...I DID. You just wanted to pull me over for pulling out and getting on it like a bat out of hell, but if you were clocking my speed then you know I didn't go over 45. If I get a ticket over this, I am SO fighting it. But I tell him "...I did that? Uh, crap. It's that way in CA too and I thought I did. But, I just got off from working two jobs, I'm pretty burnt out, and it's been one of those nights for me and I've been doing some pretty dumb things so ifI'm mistaken then I apologize." He tells me he understands what that's like, and to just be careful and have a good night. Just wanted to rattle my cage for pulling out and getting on it lol.

Your attitude with them definitely helps their disposition though. Don't get cocky or confrontational with them, and when they come up to your car you leave your seat belt on (worry about taking it off so you can reach your glove box for all your shit once they get to your car, fuck getting a no seat belt ticket because you were trying to be all efficient and have your registration and wallet handy... they stopped you so they can wait longer while you get all that far as I'm concerned LOL), and keep your hands on the wheel where they can see so they don't have to worry that you're reaching for a weapon or some shady shit. If you have a passenger, have them place their hands on the dash too.

About a week ago, I got the lights turned on me and was issued a warning for an interpretive rolling stop in an abandoned parking lot area where I was going to snap a few pics of my new ride, I almost asked for the cops name and badge number.

I am sure if I was driving a beige mini-van I probably wouldn't have been stopped, on top of that while the cop was writing me a warning, about 200 feet away I witnessed not one but two different cars blow right through a stop sign, lol.

Haven't had one since 2008 for 8 over on interstate in a orange 350z. Before that 2005 and before that 2002 in high school.

My dad got his first ticket ever in a 15 v6 rental mustang last year though lol

Never gotten pulled over for speeding past cops, even when they're literally going the speed limit on the highway and I have to cut in and out of cars to get past the 3 lanes of cars too afraid to pass the cop, but then again, I look pretty harmless when the top is down. Nothing to hide, plus the veteran plates probably help, because I notice them follow me sometimes, but then back off, probably running my plates.

I'd recommend joining the reserves to get some type of military plate, plus you get to keep your day job as a reservist. Or get a convertible and drive with the top down smiling everywhere you go :)

I'm 36. I've had 9 tickets as best I recall, most of which were between 17 and 25 years old. I deserved them all. I did a lot of dumb shit in the early days. I even got pulled over for speeding in a parking lot. I think I've had two the past 10 years. They were both dumb. 40 in a 25 and 52 in a 35. It's always the low speed areas and I'm not paying attention to see the sign change. I've only had one ticket on the interstate, and it was a vague speed change I didn't see. I was never in a sportscar.

Between insurance rates and starting to carry a gun two years ago I'm trying really hard to avoid tickets. I do my pulls in a couple safe back road places and a chosen few on ramps. Otherwise I get my joy from winding out the gears until I hit the speed limit.

Thanks for the words of wisdom PJR202, definitely appreciated. I know most Troopers are just doing their jobs, and not out to screw everyone over, but its just hard to bite the bullet sometimes.
Flak, i'm looking into getting a valentine v1 to replace my beltronics v8.

Narrowly avoided one tonight lol. Going into a holiday weekend has this place crawling with cops, which is to be expected. I'm paying more attention to listening to my gears as I shift with the clutch pushed all the way to the floor and wondering if I'm getting some grinding. Glance at my speed and I'm doing 65 in a 55. Not a big killer ticket, but enough to get me pulled over. And sure as hell, there's a parked shut off car on the side of the road. I let off the gas and just let myself slow to 55 as I pass by and yup, it's a cop. I see his headlights come on and he follows me. God damn it.

At this point I come up on my gas station; the whole damn reason I left the house was because I'm at 1/4 tank and I don't like dipping below that. There's two cops there already in the lot with a truck pulled over, and I pull in to a pump about 8 feet from them. My cop from the road flips a U-turn and goes to park across the street from me in a dark parking lot. Awesome, he's just gonna wait me out till I'm done at the pumps. Bastard, lol. I do my thing, get back in my car, and get back on the street to go home. As I'm pulling out of the pump and getting ready to leave the gas station I can see my cop cruising to the exit of his lot across from me. Then another cop car pulls in and stops next to him, and I guess they decided to have their cop buddy powwow instead lol. Maybe all just coincidental and a guilty conscience soon as I noticed I was speeding a little hahaha. But I have a feeling if my destination wasn't 1/4 mile down from where he began to follow me, I'd have probably gotten followed for a quick minute then pulled over.

I would think he would just pull you over anyway, unless he hoped you would do something worse.

I've had a couple of close calls myself in the mustang. Nothing really interesting though.

With long tubes and loud exhaust, every cop within a mile can probably hear me if I get on it. There's been a few times where I got on it and then all of a sudden my radar detector lights up at full blast. At that point, all you can do is brake as hard as you can, get down to the speed limit, and hope the cop didn't actually see your shenanigans.

This happened a few times to me in pretty much out in the country where a random state trooper would be driving around on a sparsely trafficked road.
