First post so sorry for getting right in to questions. I have a GT due to be delivered in the UK (damn those waiting lists and slow boats from Baltimore) and have been spending days, weeks and months going back and forth on which Exhaust, like many before me I am sure

I had my final choice down to the Borla S after hours of forum checking, listening with headphones, reviews. I ruled out FRPP / Corsa / MagnaF / MBRP etc all for different reasons, then bang I find the Solo range and it seems to have the tone i am looking for, sorted the drone issue out for the more bass type exhaust and gets superb reviews

So the question it looks like it will be Solo Mach XV but I am concerned this might be quieter than the BORLA S ? Can anyone who has heard both provide a comparison. The wilder side keeps suggesting the Solo Thunder but I am not sure I could live with the permamant noise level.

I am looking for deep tone (my only concern with the Borla with WOT), loud when on it, no drone (which is not the same as cabin noise I get that) and the ability to control the volume with the pedal. Kind of scare you when I want to noise.

I would really appreciate views on how the Borla system compares to the Mach XV and also is the Thunder really liveable with. I do live in a small UK village where stoning neighbors is not exactly legal but overlooked if caught. I also like the fact the the Mach xv can be upgraded with just a replacement centre pipe so that gives me some flex to go up the volume ladder one day

All help really appreciated

The Mach Thunder sounds amazing. It is actually very quiet when driving in "normal" conditions. It only gets loud when you want it to. It sounds very mean when you jump on it. It keeps that nice deep tone throughout the RPM range. I absolutely love the sound of mine. I can drive around and barely be heard if I want to. Or I can scare the piss outta people on the sidewalk if I want to, by getting on it hard lol My vote is skip the XV and go to the Thunder. Because after a month of the XV, you will be wanting more in my opinion.

I seriously could be heading that way I keep watching the Thunder vid's....I have emailed Jeff at Solo to see how much the middle section is if I want to swap over. If it can be done without too much cost and grief I may start loud and then tone down if needs be. I hope to get a reply soon

When you find out could you post? I've been torn between the Mach XV and Thunder too.

I have the Mach XV, and a friend of mine swapped his Borla S-type for the Mach Thunder. The Mach XV is on par with the Borla S loudness wise (but deeper tone, etc..). The Mach Thunder is louder than the Borla S, better compare it to the Borla Attak if you would like to put it in that way.

Steve from Solo posted the mid section only prices earlier:

Prices for the interchangeable mid sections are as follows:

Mach and Mach Thunder midsection only: $375
Street Race midsection only: $275

Please ignore any other rumors of pricing. Shipping is free to the continental US. Hawaii and Alaska are extra shipping.

Thanks again!

Steve

I guess it is personal preference, I had the opportunity to drive with all 4 Solo exhausts (incl. the axleback) and settled at the Mach XV. The Mach Thunder was indeed amazing, but a little too much for me. But I have friends with the Mach Thunder, thinking on the Street Race x-pipe.... :D

Totally agree. Everyone likes what they like. But i'd say more people end up going louder, in the long run, than don't. But if you're a person who doesn't really wan't the exhaust to get pretty darn loud ever, at any point.. then going with the Thunder would be a mistake. Because at WOT it's pretty darn loud. But also sounds soooo gooood lol I like that I can keep it very quiet around town without any problem. A friend of mine, with same exhaust, tried adding the x-pipe, and deleting the muffler.. said it gets pretty raspy and tinny at higher RPM's. I am sure it's veryyy loud too. The good thing is all the pieces are interchangeable, if you try something and don't like it.. swap it out. The XV muffler, Thunder muffler and their x-pipe are all exact fit replacements.

just gonna have to pick one and go for it. exhaust is so subjective, what i seen some people like super loud exhausts, thats not for me. i have a 3" s type catback and its perfect for me. on the highway in 6th gear it doesnt drone and you can barely hear it, step on it and it sounds great.

I have the borla s-type with H pipe. It's loud and does sound good. I'm very happy with it. I love the growl and rumble on deceleration. The idle is decent. Say you come out of a gas station you can barely hear it.(want louder now) seems that most systems are very level controllable. Just cold starts are loud. This is my second setup as I had the MBRP street before. Now I do want to switch to solo, but for the thunder or I really want the street race. I don't want rasp but I hear that people say solo has a deeper meaner sound. I'm trying to find someone near me to compare.

Well I know it's going to be a solo exhaust now but can anyone point me in the direction of someone in Solo to contact, here, email etc. Phoning is never ideal but emails across the pond haven't been replied to and before I get all keen on it I need to know if it will ship to UK? I am half tempted to buy both mid sections just in case as it's the shipping that's the killer ! I have sort of come to the conclusion the XV you have to work at to make it loud and the Thunder you work at to keep it down. I suppose it's what default setting you are happy with. Either way I need someone in Solo to talk to......any one know a guy that knows a guy etc?

It's very easy to keep the Thunder quiet. You just don't push your right foot to the floor :) At lower throttle/RPM's the Thunder is very quiet.

You can email Jeff here, this is who I dealt with... [email protected]

I got my Solo XV through beefcake. Good service. Cost of delivery was good considering size and weight of package.

The XV is a lot louder then stock when you get on it and cold starts. However it rumbles nicely ( not much louder then stock) when driving normally and at idle.

Couldn't be happier with it, and from my understanding, it only gets better the more miles I put on it
