3.31 Gears on Supercharged Car

Another option it buying a new pumpkin that has the 3.31 gears installed (Ford part number S.271.C.) with a Traction-Lok diff, it maybe a cheaper option and you will still have your 3.73 pumpkin intact and can swap back in someday or sell it. You will still need the Whipple took to program the BCM.

I can also get you the 3.31 gear set, they are slow to receive but I know the plant has them cause I have been getting assy in @ 7 days.

i got a set of 3.31s from summit racing in two days for 159.99. the box said ford racing on them.

They may have added to their catalog. I did my swap in 2/15 and Ford Racing only had 3.73 and 3.55 at that time.

I took my car in for the Whipple install. after talking with the Dante at Dante's Modular Performance, i have decided not to do the gear swap. so unless anyone in San Diego is looking for a set of 3.31, ill be sending them back to Summit Racing

About to order 3.31's from summit. Can someone tell me if there's a difference in rears? On summits site is has 3.73 and 3.55 for "Super 8.8 rear with IRS" the 3.31's only say "8.8 rear with IRS" does anyone know if there's a difference? It would suck to order these and they don't work.

What is the part#? The super 8.8 is different than just the 8.8.

Your welcome. The 3.31 from Ford has been on b/o for a while now. They do ship, but it takes a while. I have a couple on order and will post as they come avail.

First issue was i bought the gears after i ordered my Whipple kit, so the tune was sent for 3.73 gears. Dante told the car would run better with the 3.73 gears. the 3.31 with a higher gear ratio would give me a little more top end but the 3.73 would pull harder and that was what i was looking for. i really dotn think ill be getting over 160 since it is only my DD and i wont be racing it.

What did they say to change your mind?

If you have the Whipple tune, all you have to do is calibrate speedometer with Flare tool. With the amount of power the car will make, first gear is almost useless with the 3.73. At the track with slicks and full traction is the only place 3.73 might help.
