Good day to you all.

This is probably one of the more off the wall requests, but have any people managed to carry large dogs in the back of their Mustang?

I’m thinking of getting the Shrader Rear Seat Delete and reinforcing it. The wife is thinking I’m plain crazy :)

The dogs are a male Golden Retriever (so medium sized but stocky) and a Hovawart (size of a very large German Shepherd).

I have 2 SUV's so I don't need to carry my dogs in the Mustang. I have a large Doberman (used to be 130lbs, but is less now due to age) and a Black Lab/Great Dane mix that's 100lbs. When I used to have to take the Doberman in a car I bought a hammock that installs on the front and rear seat head rests and he'd lay down in that. Might be something you could look into.

Thanks Sinister I'll definitely look into this. Wow, I'm trying to picture what a 130lb Doberman must look like. Intimidating I bet!

We have an 80lb Belgian Malinois who takes all his rides in the back of my wife's Jeep Cherokee. I can't even imagine trying to fit him in the back of my Mustang, let alone two dogs that are 60lbs or more. Heck, a 60lb human barely fits in one of my back seats as it is! If you did the carpeted seat delete idea, I think a single dog could fit back there comfortably. My concern, at least with our dog who is 11 now, would be the difficulty he'd have simply getting to the back seat. The front seats don't fold down very far forward and it would be a pain having to slide my power seats forward and back again every time I took him somewhere.

Thanks, I think you are right about this. The gap is narrow. My wife will also insist that they are harnessed back to the seatbelt sockets. The Hovie is tall and as neither dog will have room to lie down...it ain't going to work. It's a shame because although we do have a dog friendly vehicle as well, I was hoping that all four of us would be able to go on our summer holidays in the Mustang.:)

I would think it's going to be very difficult to get them in & out, especially if you intend to tether them to the seat belt latches. Going to be hard for them to get in & out & then for you to latch them up. You also need to consider how you (or the emer ppl) would get to them to get them out in an emergency, like after a bad car accident !

Beautiful dogs BTW !!

My 40 lbs. Black Mouth Southern Curr LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES the Mustang cuz he can sit in the back and stick his head out the back end of the window and catch all kinds of swoons from the pretty lady drivers... then bark violently at them, scaring them to oblivion. :(

Thanks! Yours are beauties as well.

Who in hell wants to see a 130lb Doberman! Unless there's plenty of cage between us.
He's a big teddy bear if you're in the house invited. For the animals and people that come onto his turf uninvited, I feel sorry for them lol. But that was when he was younger. He's 12 now and couldn't hurt a fly if he wanted to. Now the Dane/Lab mix? He's friendly with everyone and everything.
