Pichon's Plate Holder Review

I got them from my dealer. The rear one is from Wurth, the front one they nicked from the nextdoor Volvo workshop. Forgot what brand it was.

You'd think they are the same size, but actually there are very small differences in plate size. For example Dutch plates are a few mm smaller than German plates. So it's best to find one that's meant for you local market.

Looks good ericcb... I'm guessing there is some flex to your plates then since it would need to bend to follow the curve of the bumper to?

Well it doesn't sit completely flush over the bend in the bumper (it's too hard to do that) but it's pretty close. We just applied a few extra screws in the middle area to force it to follow the bumper. I'll see if I can take a picture from above.

I found a local store selling a frame without need of drilling the plates. Check the video.

I don't know if the surrounding frame is automatically pop up with a tiny bending when installing to the front bumper. (I don't think so)

Just got a reply from the shop. This frame is also made from soft/elastic plastic so it can bending a lot without unclipping the cover :clap2:

Also in my county custom plates is forbidden.

soo... it's illegal to bend plates here! means I might end up with that clunky front holder since this pichon holder was a bust :(

It's also illegal to order your own plates from a website even if they look identical! We have this "EU" demanded blue square with a Norwegian flag (which I hate, and it sets off my OCD because it shifts the license number slightly to the right)... and when I asked about getting a plate without one they said... "NO! But we do have white stickers you can place over it..." ... so I'm not required to have that blue square but I can't get a plate without it I was thinking of replacing that white sticker with one with a Pony or Mustang logo or something

I've been googling for an hour now for something like EriccB's solution, but all I can find up here in our Northeren countries are frames with that extra strip below for ads. Even if I can get one with NO text it still looks stupid.

damn... if I find a solution "later" how easy is to make the holes in the front bumper go away?!

You mean the holes they would drill to mount the OEM plate holder? Never mind those, however you change the fixture in the future they will be covered anyway. They're at about 1/3rd and 2/3rd in the middle.

This is a variation to what I have. You slide in the number plate from the bottom and then click in a plastic strip at the bottom end that fixes the whole thing.

I was more worried of how it would look when I park the car and take my plate home with me... this car looks SOOOOOO good without plates upfront

I'm still curious as to why [MENTION=15011]Pichon[/MENTION]'s solution seems to have failed when so many of our American brethren uses the Craigs bracket it was based on... was it too heavy? or did folks not let the tape "harden" enough? it looked so much better than most anything though... I really like how the plate was kind of "floating" in front of the car, and offset a bit down from bumper over the lower grille... I NEED THAT

I'm going to order Craigs version and just either 3M the plate to it or figure some other way to get it on there since from what I understand the fixture is 103mm and my plate is 110mm so it should cover it up (I've seen some AU friends with 83mm plates and that did not look too good...)

(oh and can you guess from my heightened activity that I'm about to pick up my car soon?! NEXT MONDAY!!!)

Brilliant! We've all been making so much fuzz the past months about how to get a license plate on this bumper and in fact it's just as simple as bending it a little in the middle and use 3M tape no matter what form or size the plate is! (I like it!)

Remember that vhb tape needs to bond for 3-4 days before putting any resistance to it and that needs to happen (preferably) above 20'C... I think maybe that was part of why the previous attempts here failed maybe...

(It may bond at 10'c but would need more days to fix and would probably be weaker - my dealer recommended I not do that so my plate is on the dash still...)

I let it dry for about 24 hours and was September (still warm weather here) and it seems very strong.

Still only 3-4'C here... Atleast it's better than it was in February, and most of the snow is gone... I drilled my rear - but I'm not drilling my bumper so... kinda driving illegally still

I'm still not quite decided on what to do with the license plate up front... they are so damn large and ugly :(

On the back I'm using the [MENTION=16428]NewMustangDE[/MENTION] holders... but it kind of makes the plate seem like it's floating... afraid it will collect a lot of dust, dirt and garbage behind it though...

I got the originals from the Dealer, but can't quite figure out how they should be mounted either some voodoo shit goes into this stuff I think... (was thinking maybe for the rear... it's not that bad... anyone got'em?)
