I'm going to disagree. :p

I'm sure I've read somewhere that as it's not a permanent change of colour i.e. a proper respray, the DVLA don't need to be informed. I'm sure it'll be fun explaining that to the police if you get pulled over though.

As for not needing to inform your insurance company...
I'm starting to wonder if i'm doing it back to front, and instead I insure my car with Admiral, cheapest pickup. and then call them once it starts and i've got the car informing i'll be wrapping it, then go from there... might be the best option at the moment.

W/ you, you don't have to disclose to DVLA you'll just get pulled by cops every now and then cuz it's a wrap :(

They will just cancel your insurance and tell you they can't cover it.

You would / should tell dvla as the v5 would be incorrect

Unless what I said about it not being a PERMANENT colour change is correct.

ISTBC though.

ETA: I've found a couple of sites quoting a DVLA statement, although I can't find the actual statement itself, nor does it specifically mention wraps.

Technically an engine swop is not a permanent change as you can put it back to standard.

So do you not tel dvla for that?

Lets not go off topic regarding the others, the wrap isn't a replacement of colour, it's an overlay ontop of the colour, the paint will still be the same, and will not change, it'll have a vinyl over the top of it.

As for invalidating my insurance, no, i'd call them BEFORE the wrap gets put on AFTER i've bought the car, then i'd get the 'price rise' from them, and hopefully it's not ÂŁ500 fking quid. wth.

May have to try the whole 'reverse' insurance thing, and have my dad/mum as main drivers and me as an additional driver to get the wrap on... :headbonk:

I know someone who tried the 'I'll ring after I get the car and change my insurance to cover a wrap'

And was told sorry sir we don't cover that modification. So they cancelled his insurance when he refused to remove it.

The point they are making though is that if you call them after you have the car to say you want to put a wrap on they may just refuse and if you tell them you have already done it they will cancel your insurance and return your premium. That would also mean you need to inform future insurers you have had insurance cancelled (if you didn't cancel it yourself) and that will raise future premiums.

Looking at the quotes you are getting you are probably better off keeping it red and looking at doing other minor mods to get it how you want and use a specialist insurer.

Also your whole "reverse insurance" is technically called fraud.

You can't cheat the system Manders. They will find out it will be a lot of headache. If you have insurance cancelled I would be amazed if you will be able to get insurance at all after that.

We all know what a wrap is. Your not the 1st person to do it.

Google DVLA and wrap and you will get your answer.

We are trying to help you not make a stupid mistake.

Here you go even done the hard work for you

I meant I'd call them to say I would wrap and see how it would effect my premium. I would not wrap and then tell them it was on. Then they can cancel and I'll lose a shit load of money. Along with insurance for the next few years for being an asshat

So boys, I might be making a post to follow this up. Wrap may now be off the cards. Which I am not a happy bunny about at all.

It's not fraud, bending the truth. I'm clutching at straws in an attempt to get this wrap on

As for notifying. I legitimately did not know that was now the case. Thank you for enlightening me. (Not sarcasm like legit thank you)!

As for specialist insurers, anyone got any idea. Seems most of these big corps are not going to cover me, or if they are it's at absurd prices I'm not prepared to pay fyi Adrian faux without wrap, 3300.......

Are stripes, or roof wrap or headlight wraps classed as a modification. And also are wrapping the side skirts, splitter and rear valance?...

Will explain more in another post.

That's really interesting. The bit I can't work out is if you resprayed the car a different colour you tell the DVLA, you tell your insurance company, no charge.

If you wrap it in, say, pink (just to make it relevant) you tell the DVLA, you tell your insurer, and they say no.

I get it if it's a daft design, or daft colour, but the difference between paint and a wrap is just the way it's stuck to the car.

Manders, If you change the car in any way you need to tell your insurer. They will decide if its a mod or not, and if they want to charge for it. I suggest you stick with the red. You can spend all next year trying to find someone who will cover you for the wrap, and if you can, have a colour change for its first birthday.

Or, cancel your order, and order another one in a colour you actually want, and keep us all amused for the next 8 months as we wait for the next one?

I think people like Adrian flux and other specialist want to know you have driven performance cars before. Your HIGH risk. And then you want to modify the car makes you look even HIGER risk.

Any modification outside of what was delivered needs to be disclosed. Even to the point of a new aerial (doesn't matter in this case)

I used to see arguments about having to declare any spec changes from Base spec. So they would argue that Shaker, heated seats and parking sensors would need to be disclosed. But I don't think that matters now.
Forget about mods for a year. Get a years worth of clean ownership under your belt and you will get some better quotes.
