Running non PP rad.
Anyone have problems with the Motorad 160F tstat?

Heard the EvenFlo 160F was junk.

Having doubts about the Motorad 160F I am running.

Heard the $20 Duralast Autozone 160F works but it *might* be a Motorad mfg version so wtf?

Maybe I got a bunk tstat or expecting 160-190 CHT is not realistic on a 160F marked tstat because of its flow/pressure profile (needs higher idle pump volume or RPM)?

stock OEM tstat: 195-205 highway, 220 idle after hard driving

Whipple w Motorad 160F marked tstat: 200 highway 225 idle after hard driving

My head temps were running 215 to 225 all the time after I added Procharger. Now, running the Reische 170, it stays at 185-192.That's cooler than it was stock.

I swapped out the motorad for the reische and definatly saw a difference in temps.

I just changed the Whipple 160 for the Reische 170 and found it interesting that the Reische direction contradict Whipple. Whipple calls for 2 bottles of water wetter in the engine coolant and Reische directions says not to use water wetter in coolant concentrate higher than 40% antifreeze or precipitants may occur.

Increased flow rate is good.
The 160 flow is actually low per degrees over 160.
In otherwords, the damn thing aint opening as much per increase in temp.
The 170 has a much steeper flow rate increase curve per degree Ftemp increase.

If you have any doubts, just take the tstat out like I did.
Works great but you are going to foul plugs and the cold temps dont vaporize fuel as well so it actually runs a little leaner although tune is trying to compensate.

Would need a fuel rail heater to run no tstat and then the oil pump parasitic is higher pushing cold/thicker oil.

I have the Reische 160 with the Roush and all good. According to the instructions, Reische says the temp is controlled by head temp not actual water temp. You will have a 10/15 temp difference between thermostat and water temp. So if running a 160' you are around 170/185 water.
