2016 GT w/ PP...under $29k by summer?

The listings on Ford used cars (from dealers) are absolutely insane. I wouldn't read into the list price of a used car too much as they're going to move quite a bit on that price. The truth is that they're hoping you'll offer a fair price and they'll "meet you in the middle" for the sale. But if you do a good job at negotiating, you can get them for about what you actually expect them to go for.

I noticed the same when I went to a Ford dealership recently where they have used 2016 Fiesta STs going for $2k+ above MSRP (not even counting incentives and such you get on new cars)...

Hmm...I haven't tried negotiating or feeling out wiggle room on used prices because I just figured they'd do the typical "well it's already pretty aggressively priced..." crap.

But if what you're saying is true and a $29k car can be had for...say...under $25k....that'll work!

I guess it can't hurt to give it a shot and see what the difference is between new and used.

Just speaking about the tax on an out-of-state purchase. I bought a car in TX and I'm from NV. The dealership I bought my car from said they would collect the tax (8.15% in my county in NV). When I was with the finance guy, he said something about taxes being a little higher than they quoted. Since I was in such a hurry to get out of there and drive 22 hours back home, I just figured whatever, put it on the credit card...

Well they charged me WAY too much on the tax. 12.02% to be exact. I hope this is not how they make their money. I just hope it's an easy process to get my money back. Hope I don't have to get a lawyer. TX DMV told me the dealership doesn't even need to collect tax for out of state. And NV DMV told me they should only have collected 8.15%. I guess I'll find out when I register it.

But for reference, I paid 33,016 + 499 (tint/wheel locks package - I tried to get it taken off, wouldn't do it) =$33,515. 2016 base GT with Recaro and GTPP.

I got a GA volume dealer down to $39800 out the door for a 400A optioned GT PP missing a few features I'd want including, of course, 401A and Enhanced Security. Koons' final out the door was just $500 more than that on a 401A optioned car with more features and that's BEFORE any rebates I happen to qualify for (none, most likely).

Their dealer fees are typical of every Ford dealership I spoke with.

Like I said, my local dealer was only a $700-ish difference out the door from Koons. Definitely significant. But when you see Koons advertise something for $29k and everyone else is $30k-$31k...Koons is still throwing in plenty of profit on their end of the deal.

See what would be the best deal for me is if I could go the traditional route and register/do taxes once I got back to PA. Because I'm pretty sure if I go through AAA, the registration is free (or maybe just transfer is free for a used private deal?). I have to double check that.

I look at it this way. Instead of ripping the price apart line by line I just compare OTD prices. Who cares if the WOW price is lower and they add some fees in if the OTD price is still significantly better than your other offers.

I bought from Koons back in August -- 2015 GT PP Premium Wow price was
$6000 below retail and they still honored EAA rebate and college rebate to lower the price even more + 0% from Ford. The fees were similar to every other dealer I checked. Drove down from New Jersey to pick the car up and everything was exactly what we discussed. Couldn't be happier and it was the only place I found a GT PP with 401A + Premier trim. List was $43,450.

The fees are the same as every other dealer I went to. They aren't ripping you off. They are a HUGE volume dealer. Kind of like how Amazon sells everything cheaper.

So long as it's the lowest price in the region...or better yet the US...works for me!

But back to the original topic about pricing come summer. I figure a lot of people think..."Hey, winter's over, nice weather....I think I'll buy a Mustang!". However, for me, I'm planning on buying at or after summer because that's when I no longer have a $1k/mo. day care bill to pay thanks to all-day-kindergarten coming up. So the $64 question is...does the price come down more as we get closer to the 17's....and to go further with it...do I want to wait until the fall for the lowest price?

My predicament is finding the exact combo I want (Magnetic, GT, Base w/PP) and waiting until the 17's are out means I have to search around and hope the dealer that has one matches/beats Koons (if not local) or if not hoping Koons has one in stock. So the trade-off is gambling on whether I get the most rock-bottom price or whether I have to go on a scavenger hunt for the car.

See Koons flat out lied to me when they quoted me on it. I told them, since I'm out of state, I'll just pay the tax and register the car...when I get back to my state.

The bastard wrote me back and said Ford requires them to do that at the dealership...which the Ford Rep on this forum, Deysha, confirmed is not true. She said they are all independently owned and operated...so Ford doesn't make them do ish!

I did not confirm, nor deny this claim, Emt1581. I simply stated, they are all independently owned and operated, plus states have different laws as well. This is why it’s best to speak with your local Ford Dealer about this.

Also, we will stop taking 2016 orders when we begin taking orders for the 2017s.

I'll give ya that...you didn't directly confirm or deny it. However, it's a pretty simple connection to make that if 1) They are claiming Ford makes them do it, and 2) You (representing Ford directly) says the dealers are independently owned and operated....not that much of a leap to link the two together to determine Koons is lying.

Thanks for the info about the orders. I keep seeing May mentioned in regard to 17's....any ability to confirm/deny whether it'll be May when the 17 orders start happening?

Who knows maybe Ford goes from a $500 rebate to $1000 next fall on any left over 16s. I think they are at $900 for left over 15s if you want to use that for an imaginary answer/guide/prediction tool. But rebates etc vary by sales region based upon inventory in the region.

Top notch and other dealer employees have LONG ago posted 2017 dates. No one has said a damn thing about May. You really need to stop jumping to conclusions and bending words. As Deysha clearly stated every dealership is independently owed and operated. AND every state has different rules and regulations. In MOST-please note I said MOST and that MOST is not ALL-you pay tax on the sale and your home State credits you. The Koons employee probably just misspoke. He/she was probably trained that they must charge tax and assumes per Ford as opposed to a state regulation and the interaction of the interstate commerce clause of the US Constitution.

Oh back to dates: a Final orders due very soon. Last day for 16s is in March. if I'm recalling correctly-find the date thread from Topnotch to verify dates. That does not mean you can just walk in on March whatever as the dealer may not have instant allocation plus Ford pulls some items like discontinued paint early as supplies run out.

Order banks for the 2017s Open on 4/4...well after the closing of 2016 orders. Job1 for 2017 MY is in EARLY June.

I know I read May somewhere but I'd rather not go look it up so I'll give you that one.

As for no one having the price answer I'm looking for, sometimes in life we can learn about the future by looking at the past....so no, we can't say for certain what the market and Ford is going to do but I'd be willing to be that the prices people were paying for 15's back in December might be similar to what we can expect say...next December. So unless we're in some sort of parallel universe and no one's bought a 2015 GT yet....there should be plenty of people with an answer even if that's just sharing their own experience.

I never saw the "top notch and other dealer employees' " posts about dates. However, at this point, those might be moot. I had some down time at work today and I made a pro-con list of when/where/what to buy. At the end of it, the best choice is to wait until the 17's are out, but there are still plenty of 16 GT's w/PP left, then pick one, travel (most likely a state or two away) and drive it home.

Either way I can't buy until June anyway, so whether the 17's come out tomorrow or May...only thing to consider is buying one of the 16's right away in June or holding out for the chance at a better rebate/rate. Was just hoping to find out from others which of the two made better financial sense.
