How is the 1st to 2nd gear during cold start? The notchiness in my stock shifter is killing me

Notchiness is the transmission, not the shifter.

There is still a little notchiness. That is mostly due to the factory shift linkage. Again it is much better though. It use to be a pain going from first to second, not its not as bad.

Did your mgw help?
That is the one thing I like about the MGW was that it did away with the factory shift linkage. There was still some notchiness but MGW had the best remedy for notchiness so far. I talked to David from Steeda about coming up with a replacement for the shifter linkage so hopefully something will be made in the future.

I personally like the Steeda shifter more than MGW. Its more suited for what I use the car for.

Did you have the MGW previously?

Yes. I installed it on a Friday and uninstalled and sold to my friend that Sunday. The biggest issue I had was that it wasn't centered in the console. That drove my OCD crazy. I also didn't care for the push down lockout either.

This small detail that I was unaware of has now made my decision ten times easier.

I do agree with that part, when I got mine installed and put it in first gear...I felt like it was uninstalled wrong and had to call to make sure it was right.

1st gear is more towards 3rd and I get a little confused and not as confident when I downshift, although I am still new to driving.

Other than that, I love everything else about it.

I have the MGW and don't notice this at all, even after someone sat in my car to show me. OCD enough that I changed my lights out to ensure the headlight colors matched the fogs. ;)

I don't do video reviews of things but here is my written view of my new Steeda Tri-ax Race shifter. Mine was installed by Steeda last Friday down in Valdosta.

Tri-Ax Shifter - This shifter is a beautiful piece of art. The throws are sooooooo short and so precise. The height of the shifter is perfect. You can just rest your hand on the center console and your palm just rests comfortably on the shifter ball. The throws are bolt action rifle precise. It goes into the gate with minimal effort. I have the soft springs installed. There is a nice weighty feel when shifting. The very first time you feel the shifter after it is installed, your jaw will drop at how different it feels over stock. After 2 days, I am now used to the feeling and it is a glorious thing. You get a bit more noise from the Tri-ax vs. stock shifter but it leads to a more mechanical, visceral experience with the shifter and the car. The downshifts are so much faster now vs. stock. It is almost like we have a DCT in the car, no lie. If you are on the fence about buying a shifter, just do it. You will be happy you spent the money. It really changes the entire feel of the car and driving experience. This is the BEST aftermarket shifter I have had installed in any of my Mustangs since 1991:D:first:
