HOA rules? loud car

They aren't that bad. If anything it's kind of nice. Keeps dirtbag Joe across the street from buying Llamas and Pigs and turning his 2 acre lot into a pig trough. Same goes for having 4 broke down "Project" cars sitting along the grass rotting away. Just be respectful with your exhaust and I'm sure you'll be fine.

There are HOA's and then there are crazy HOA's. Ours started out nice enough, reasonable group running the show, bylaws enforced but not overbearingly or obnoxious. Then a bunch of busy bodies moved in (to the new, cheaper sections) who's house (apparently) was their entire life & life savings and things went down fast. They began interpreting rules the way they saw fit - began demanding ppl powerwash their roof, driveway, sidewalk, mailbox and the curbs on the street as part of the clause that said you would "maintain your home in good repair". Even a small brown spot (common in FL summers, especially with watering restrictions) got you a warning letter. Some of them walked the streets, clipboard in hand noting things they didn't like about ppl's homes. It just went crazy - the 1st 6 or 7 years were great, the last 3 were hell.

We finally gave up & moved to a non-HOA area. It's not perfect either, but beats the constant nagging & bitching we had in Tampa.

I feel like its worth its weight just to not have joe across the street with 4 rust buckets and a moldy RV in his yard. some do get out of hand though

hoa's are meant to be for the benefit of maintaining neighborhood but some people are just aholes who run them.

there is not a single hoa around here that has any type of noise violation far as sound goes but i'd imagine out west and up north there are ridiculous things like that.

only way to avoid hoa's now and days is to buy an old ass house in an established neighborhood where hoa fell apart 20 years ago...or don't live in a neighborhood....but with price per sq ft so low on new contruction and new construction driving home sales... good luck finding a place with out an hoa.

however... I won't ever live in a neighborhood without one. As someone who is in real estate...hoaless neighborhoods are rough...hoopties on the street, 2 ft tall grass, boats in the yards and streets, roads beat to hell, and the neighborhood in general has been ran down into the ground. every single one around here is like that. all the established neighborhoods 20 years or less old have them around here and of course new construction does...the lower end priced neighborhoods that are 31-50 do not and those neighborhoods are just old, cheap, and not appealing.

Those developments on the West side of Ridge Road in Minooka are half-filled with old farm families that grew up in the area - be respectful when you drive through the neighborhood (revs down), and I highly doubt you'll have a problem - I had the same exhaust on my last car and it wasn't that loud if you didn't want it to be.

Much of what you're saying is location dependent. May be true in Lex, but we had no problem finding a 2 yr old home in a neighborhood of reasonably well kept homes with no HOA. Been here 11 years now & yeah, there were a few issues but a call to code enforcement cured the issues within 30 days.
