Saw a ZL1 yesterday. I got a chance to watch and listen to it as it entered the freeway.
My first observation is that the lower grill opening is to big. Looks cartoonish. Second it sounds terrible compared to my R. It was a 10 speed auto car and it sounded like at full throttle it was shifting at 5k. I know it's over 6 but it does not sound like 6k plus.

On sound and appearance it's the GT350 R all day.
I don't like that gaping mouth thing either. And yes...something about these engines in the Camaro's chassis always makes them sound weird. They don't sound bad but not knock out either. It has to be something with piping length and the cabin shape. The 06 GTO has basically the same dimensions and such but I think they sound better and I think it's because of the cabin shape and how it affects the harmonics.

If the ZL1 is similar to the SS 1LE, the crossover is aft the transmission and close to the rear diff. It also has a cylindrical BBQ grille for a muffler.

Im sure the aftermarket exhausts for the Camaro line have to be a significant improvement above stock.

The SS 1LE tied the R at willows. The ZL1 beat it. Just don't run the R against a ZL1 in the quarter mile. It's time for the GT500 with 750HP to compete with the ZL1 1LE.
The SS 1LE would get whipped by an R.

The integrated suit case muffler the Camaro sports is ideal for packaging, weight distribution, and tuning volume.

Two of our oem clients consider it a best practice.

I like to disassemble things.

I found the SS 1LE to be a near match for the regular GT350 when it came to handling and braking at Roebling Road. It had a healthy torque curve down low but fizzled in the medium to high ranges where the GT350 shines. On the straights the GT350 pulls away. And, the SS 1LE needed to use 3rd/4th/5th gear whereas the GT350 was happy in 3rd/4th. An R should extend the margin even more so.

The M4 GTS is the most absurd pricing of any car on sale today. Even over other high six figure cars. Just say it, "One hundred thirty five thousand dollars for a Bee Em Double You Em Four." Yeesh...

Especially this weekend. Z51, Z06, AND GS all 8-12k under sticker. ZLI 2-5k under. Actually makes them damn compelling.
That is tempting !

Although if you wait 6 months you will probably get a much better deal. Usually prices are highest when the new models first come out.

edit: I realize the Z51 has been out for a while.

Yeah Im not sure why to even compare the cars... only thing they have in common is the price. Both around 65k. Assuming they drive the R. Im just waiting for that GT500 vs ZL1 comp.
LOL!!!!! Just to clarify, Quick stands for acceleration times, Fast stands for MPH/speed as in the 1/4 mi trap spd. Funny how stupid people are, saying 0-60 mph in 3.5 sec is FAST.... LOL, That is a measurement of quickness, not speed folks. 60 mph is "fast", 3.5 sec is darn "quick". Anyone get it yet??? Just like when talking Torque, it's a form of measurement, and when one says: ft-lbs, I know they don't know what they're talking about... You can't put feet into pounds. However, you can put pounds into X amount of feet. Racing Professionals and Engineers say lb-ft, while tuners, weekend racers, etc and some not so common magazines say ft-lbs, lol. Anyway, the new mustang vs ZL, that'll be a "no contest" match up.... The last 2010-2015 580 hp ZL got slayed by the 2013-14 GT500 in acceleration and braking, and was close to tying the ZL in handling. The old ZL was more on par with the 2010-2012 GT500 540-550 hp. They both ran 113-115 in the 1/4 mi and 12.4-12.6 in the 1/4... And 0-60 mph in 4.3-4.5 sec. A 2012 convertible ZL1 auto did 12.8@ 112 mph. The extra 170 lbs hurt it. So, the newer 2013-14 GT500 averaged 3.9 sec 0-60 and quickest/fastest 1/4: 11.6@126... average 1/4's were 12.1@123... The new Cobra/GT500 Cobra will leave the new ZL in the dust from an acceleration standpoint again. How? Well the new ZL is still over 4050 lbs wet... The last GT500 was 3875 lbs... The GT350R like in this test vs the ZL, is 3680 lbs... The new mustang supercar will be around 3775-3850 lbs and have over 730 hp, plus the same 10 spd auto option and "manga-doodle" suspension. A few close friends in FMC have told me this new mustang will be more of a threat to the C7 ZR1, than the new Z0... however, the Z0 will get the 10 spd tranny by 2018 for 2019 Z06's.... It MIGHT be in the new ZR1 too.
