Unless they start using the full Boss302 set up in the GT.
Ford has pushed the 5.0 about as far as it will go. They are NOT spending a ton of dough on further engine development.
Note the new 5.2 coming out in the GT350...that will be the Camaro "fighter" if there is going to be one...that and a larger Ecoboost motor.
All that is needed to increase the power is a minor tune change. I doubt they will do anything for 2016, maybe not even 17 (if any maybe just 5 to 10hp to keep it fresh). 18/19 maybe direct injection..I don't see them directly responding to the camaro unless they feel they need to. Sales are going to be great on this car, most changes on this car will probably be with options and suspension. Anything to improve it upon its previous MY.

next big change in the drive train will probably be the transmission.

It won't affect the fun factor. My car's already pegging the limit. :)

Should bring back the 5.4 and drop the 5.0 in the next few years imo.

There will always be something newer and better.....
Except in 1973 with the introduction of the Mustang II.

Just sayin'

Oh, look how far we've come!

If you want to know what Ford might do, you could look at what Ford did in response to GM when the LS motors came out.

Actually those cars were very popular. They were a good design for the times.

I prefer this setup to Boss302, we have 10 more lbft but 9hp less. I would take the more torque setup any day! The rumors are 150 lb lighter camaro, i don't know if this is for the base or loaded setup, if it is for loaded then yes camaro is lighter but if GM improves the interior too i don't think it will loose that much weight! As for the engines, the 450 or 460 lbft torque itself will make the camaro superior to the coyote, their transmisson is better as well so pair that lt1 with a good gear ratio then you will have a serious competition!

The 5.4 can't hold a candle to the 5.0. It's a heavy old design without anywhere near the potential of the Coyote. Maybe we'll see a 5.2 Coyote but we won't see that old boat anchor again.

If Chevy brings out a 450 HP Camaro SS that weighs "only" 3800 pounds (300 less than the current car) I will smile, go out to the garage, and admire my Mustang. Why would I care?

What if they come out with a 650 hp Camaro SS that weighs under 3,000 pounds?

What if Chevy launches a Camaro that costs $150K?
They could stuff the engine from the ZL1 in an old Pontiac Solstice chassis for way less than that.
