Yes, the Mustang is a coupe, as was the Carrera. We’ve had our share of convertibles over the years, but the complexity of most power top mechanisms is just something else to worry about. Our winters are cold, but our summers are usually mild with low humidity, and I prefer driving with the windows down. Sadly, it’s almost time to park the Mustang for the winter, but getting it back on the road in the spring is like having a new car again!

Best wishes for the new GT. Ours is magnetic metallic, too, and we get a lot of compliments on it. The 911 was seal gray metallic, a similar color, but not as beautiful as the magnetic Ford.

I’d take the $100k Porsche over the Mustang if I could afford it but ... I can’t. :sunglasses:

I still love my Mustang. Awesome car

Not really....I was all set on buying a Carrera S in Lava Orange. I test drove a Carrera S at the Porsche Experience Center in Carson. I was not impressed at all. I didn't like it. I hated the way the engine sounded and a lot of other things. Didn't think the base interior in the Carrera was all that great. So I ended up getting an Orange Fury PP1.

Many of you have undoubtedly seen the October Car and Driver article "Lightning Lap 12". For those who have not, the article came out at the most opportune time in my decision making process. As I was about to drop well over a 100 grand on a new 2019 Porsche to replace the 2007 Carerra I had just sold, I saw this article which tested a field of performance cars doing timed lap tests at Virginia International Raceway Grand Course 4.1 mile track. Here is a summary of the results starting with the quickest overall lap time. Please also note the price for each car tested!!
Lap Time. Car. Price as Tested
#1. 2:37.8. 2018 Porsche 911GT2RS. Weissach $322,706
#2. 2:39.7. 2018 McLaren 720S $376,465
#3. 2.39.5. 2019 Corvette LR1. $141,485
#4. 2:44.0. 2018. Lamborghini Huracan. $339,685
#5. 2:45.5. 2017 Ford GT. $525,750
#6. 2:47.0. 2018 Porsche 911 GT3. $165,120
#7. 2:53.8. 2018 Ford Mustang GT, PP2. $51,770. WOW!!!
#8. 2:55.2. 2018 BMW M5. $129,795
#9. 2:56.7. 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman. $96,310
10. 2:58.5. 2018 Audi TT RS. $81,722
11. 2:59.8. 2018.Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. $77,870

The Article also included top speeds at various points on the track. The Mustang was always right in the pack with the Porsche’s, Lambo’s and Corvette. The Corvette’s performance is impressive, beating out the Mustang on the Track. But, no back seat or proper truck, I’ll take a Mustang please. Perfect for taking my sweetie on a picnic in the mountains and tearing up the track a few odd times each year, plus now with AppleCarPlay and Waze to help keep those points off my license.

I'm right there with ya. I've been a Porsche guy for 30 years. I still own a '72 911 and a '86 951 (944 Turbo, for the laymen!). I have never bought or owned an American car, until this year. I bought my 2018 Ecoboost PP for $25.4K. With one small upgrade (switching to GT PP front brakes), I now have a car that can keep up with a 718 Cayman on track, for less than half the price. Plus I have a huge trunk, a back seat, and get 30 mpg hwy. I will always love vintage Porsches. But I'm a sucker for "value", and the Mustang has it hands down.

I noticed alot of interesting things about they way engineers tune exhaust sounds during gear shifts. American cars overall dont tune it and it changes gears as normal. Some European cars/and Lexus(GSF) tune them so that during gear change the engine note/exhaust seems to like completely turn off. Porsches have fart notices. Focus RS/hot hatches/Lambos in general get the loud pops and crackles

No 2018 Camaro SS 1LE tested...would have been interesting to see where it fell in the pecking order same track same conditions etc....
Would have cost less than and come higher than the Mustang PP2.

I love the S550 (had 2) but if you want to talk lap times the 1SS 1LE is insane for the money.

The one comparison I read said there was not much daylight between the two, but the Camaro was faster both in straight line and on the track. I don't think it's cheaper, the costs are pretty much the same I think.
