Well Ford is ditching Microsoft for QNX on Sync 3. According to Cnet, this will be a Model Forward Upgrade, meaning 2016 models will be the first with it and it will hit the entire lineup by 2017. No upgrade path for 2015 and below models unfortunately for us 2015 Mustang buyers. Hopefully they are wrong about that.

The Verge has a few pictures of the new system running on a (mock) S550 premium dashboard: http://www.theverge.com/2014/12/11/7375837/ford-sync-3-announced

The only reason why I don't see it happening is because our MFT doesn't have a capacitive touchscreen, I'm not sure about the processor but all of the necessary buttons seem to be there. Maybe there's some hope?

Every year things will be upgraded and improved.

Im sure everyone knew this going in.

Just enjoy what you have and trade up in a couple years.

It happens with damn near anything you/we buy, so why should a Mustang be different?

Definitely makes me want to wait for a 2016 to see if that is included. Looks much more like UConnect, which is definitely a good thing.

Just read the article and I have to be host and say that I like the way our infotainment looks now. I have never had any issues with it now or on my previous 2011 Explorer. I know it may not be the latest and greatest but it serves its purpose.

I wonder if a head unit swap would work? If not no big deal, I don't have a problem with MFT in my Wife's Edge.

i buy my car for driving, not computering
in a way i'm glad myfordtouch is shitty because I won't be tempted to use it much. If they would discount the car to take it out, i'd go for that

it's mostly entertainment and nav?
Tesla has a reason for OTA updates as the whole car is electronic and they can add and remove features.

Can FORD send any OTA updates via new sync3 that would affect driveability or performance?

I've had my '01 for 11 years. 1 more should be about right. Just hope its a day 1 '16 upgrade and not something introduced midyear.

While I would like a faster experience in a car entertainment system - I hardly touch the one in my Avenger. Not worth waiting another 8 months for it to -maybe- in the 2016 stang.

Considering that most of the 2016 model will likely be the same as the 2015 model, we may see the head unit capable of being installed in the 2015 models?

I don't hate MFT and it works fine for me. It could be a little snappier, but overall I like it.

But, right after reading the post I was thinking - oh, hmm - maybe it'll be nicer. But, I gotta say - that interface is crap. MFT isn't perfect, but I like the way it looks 10x better than the QNX interface. It looks low rent.

Maybe it'll be fixed in the interim, but it's not something to delay a purchase over.
