Stock Air Box Foam

Anybody know what this is for? I'm curious if anybody has removed this foam and noticed any gains?

I removed this part and the car pulls harder from 5500rpm up to redline.

i removed mine and both sound res. one from inlet and one on the box.. car feels pretty damn nice now imo

Just ripped mine out tonight. There is definitely something to it. Slight tone change to the exhaust and can't tell yet on performance.

What did you use to seal the hole from removing the resonator on the actual bottom of air box housing .
