Safe to assume no 2017 GT500 but why the 3 year platform wait?

That very well could be true, but when is that going to be no one wants to wait 2+ years for that to happen and then everybody else will be preparing for their next performance vehicle.
Possibly. People will have them in CY2018 :)

It remains to be seen whether the buying public will decide the bar has been raised and if it's enough. 0-60 and 1/4 from what I gather the ZL-1 is not faster than an older GT500. The ZL-1 will get decimated by a Hellcat if the Hellcat has the right tires.

Street manners? Really, that's your performance car criteria?
Ummm yeah! We are not discussing the Cobra Jet or COPO. We are in fact discussing/comparing high performance cars produced by the big 3 that are smog legal.

I vividly remember my uncles small & big block hot rods running hot, no A/C...I could go on & on but think about this. You can purchase an American Hot Rod with back-seats off the showroom floor that runs mid to low 11s and it doesn't buck & jerk you to death, doesn't overheat...

What's wrong with having your ice cream AND cake?

I hope so. I'm hoping we see something from Detroit and that they have them rolling off the production line at the end of 2017 as of 2018 model.
I'm going to be sick if we don't see something at Detroit!! Don't want to have to wait another year just to see or order it!!!! Crazy! Murphy's Law to be ready to buy and nothing you want is out!!!!!!

I wouldn't get too excited for anything but the '18 refresh at Detroit. Later in the year, though...

Think the release is going to test our patience. Looks like by the time it's released I will have added a supercharged to my S550 and just decide to stay put. Still great times for us car guys though!

Not sure if this was posted on this site yet, from a thread on the SVTP site.
So Ford is looking for dealers to sign up for the 2018 MY GT350, and no one has heard a word about the next GT500.

I mean it makes sense to me if they wanted the GT500 to be a surprise why would they tell dealers! It'd be leaked to everyone instantly.

Yep, this was posted last week. Discouraging, but doesn't mean the GT500/Cobra isn't coming in 18 for sure. Ford really sat on their hands with this one. Hell, where are the other 6 hi po vehicles they promised 12 by 20 a couple years back.

The ZL1 is going to be faster then a gt500 because it has the auto. Give it a few months until some guys start going to the track, I bet that car dips into high 10's and maybe 10'8s with tire. Gt500 maybe faster in roll race though. Won't get decimated by the hellcat, if they both have tires and autos I bet it's very close.
And then there's the possibility of that AWD Hellcat....... :hail:

You do know we were discussing the current ZL1 vs previous gt500 right? Do you actually believe the previous gt500 is still going to be faster at the strip then the new ZL1? I'm sure the NEW gt500 or whatever it is called, will be faster then the current ZL1. I very much look forward to seeing what Ford does with this new car, I just hope it's not a 2 plus year wait.

Oh yeah, I saw that... and at this point an AWD Hellcat is more of a reality than a 2018 GT500.

The ZL1 is a beast... I already started a thread regarding that. The bigger issue is that it is a reality. We could speculate till doomsday, but we'll never know what will do what till Ford decides to make a new GT500.

Ok I misinterpreted the post. Your right there's no signs of a gt500 anytime soon, but we can hope!!
