I just have a quick question to anyone who owns a manual GT. What is the RPM while having the cruise set (in 6th gear of course) at 77 MPH? I'm just curious as I have a 98% freeway ride to and from work (about 33 miles one way) and usually set my cruise to 77.

Would the RPM vary with different rear axles? I'm contemplating buying a GT or waiting for the Focus RS to come out but in the meantime I'm saving $ and researching so this was on my mind to ask. I suppose I could just drive one to find out but time is limited right now for me to get behind the wheel. I drove an EB for a little bit but never got it on the freeway.

I don't know about the rpm, but the standard gear should net you the best mileage on the highway. If I had a lot of highway driving I would probably opt for the 3.55s though. It is the best of both worlds, great acceleration and pretty decent mileage. In my 11' GT I averaged 19 combined mileage and 23 why and it had 3.73s. I would assume 24-25 ish with the 3.55 hwy. mine will be a PP when I get it or a gt350. Got a fusion for the DD. Rear ratios always affect rpm.

Yes, the RPM in 6th at a given speed will vary with the different axles. Bigger the rear, higher the RPM for a fixed speed. I test drove a PP GT (3.73) and found 6th gear to be plenty tall for freeway at 70mph, especially in comparison to my 5spd Subaru. Unless I read the tach incorrectly, I thought it said around 1500rpm in 6th at 60mph, which should work out to under 2000rpm at 80mph, as ground speed scales linearly with engine rotation, holding gear ratio fixed. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. 6th on this car is quite tall - makes it less good on the track but gives you a good cruising gear.

EDIT - I did indeed misremember the tach! (that or the dealer lied to me about which axle was on there) - oyitsagreen helpfully points out the engine is turning around 2300rpm at 77 in 6th with the 3.73 axle. Still a pretty tall 6th if you ask me - my Subaru cruises at upwards of 3,000rpm and I've driven it across the country 3 times.

GT auto with 3:55's. 1750 @ 60 mph. 2000 @ 70. I have not checked it at 75 or more, maybe on my next trip to Dallas.

Wow, 6th is much taller than I thought. That's good news. I was just under 3k when cruising at 77 in the FoST I had. Thanks for the rear end advice, I was wondering if I should go with the 3.55 since I'm not yet sure if I'll go with the PP.

I don't think it is that tall. If I remember correctly I'm at 2000 at 70 mph with a gt pp (6 speed 3.73)

I've had 4 cylinder cars for years now so anything under 2500 rpm is a win for me. It'svbeen quite a while since I've owned a V8.

I'm opposite right now. I've been driving my diesel lately while waiting on this car to get here and it redlines at 3k so 2k seems high. Lol

Im usually humming down the highway at 4k or beyond in the s2k. Needless to say 4hrs one way is about the longest roadtrip I've ever taken it on. Looking forward to more of a grand touring feel even with the 373's. My 04 gt felt like a luxury cruiser so a 15 should be worlds beyond in refinement. I Already got the zpin from gramps, who wants to buy a 9150rpm torqueless wonder?

I love my torque less wonder. Had the s2k for 13 years. Toying with the idea of selling it for a gt with PP. Curious how do they compare. I'm afraid I will miss the S too much.

I am just under 2000rpm going 65 with a performance package plus I also realized that using the cruise control on this manual... The mpg actually drops...coasting downhills in gear of course works better not in cruise control by letting off the throttle.... cruise control does not seem to do the same
