For those who read my last form about the car smoking, the tech at Firestone said there is a tiny leak in the oil pan. He recommends to change the gasket. His shop doesn't have an engine lift so he cannot do the job.

Is there a way I can do this at home? Should I just take it to Ford?

If you have to ask, yes you should take it to Ford.

You have to lower the subframe and support the engine separately to be able to get to the entire oil pan.

There's a leak in the oil pan??? Or the oil pan gasket????

Either way it should be doable with jacks and such, but if it were my I'd order the parts and pay a mechanic to install them.

If Ford says they have an OEM gasket. I read on here the frlpro or whatever is trash. Unless there is something better than Ford OEM?

Anyone who made need this in the future, I heard some guys on Youtube found loose bolts on the head. I will check the oil pan too and ensure it's all at spec. I mean, if it was still an issue then I should still have smoke.

Sounds dumb to check but there has to be a reason why only SOME oil leaked and not constantly. I do NOT leak oil in my drive way.

I haven't looked at the IPB but I would think the gasket would be silicone/rubber. I would re-torque the bots, then spray with carb cleaner to remove all oil residue, then see how it goes.

Fantastic idea. I'll do that and if I dom't spot anything next oil change (4 months from now), I will report that.

You gotta be paying more attention than that.

A big piece of clean cardboard under the car where it's parked to spot for leaks, and checking your oil levels every few days.

Can't be messing around with oil levels/leaks.

If it is a leak sure, but if it's a seep, then clean re-torque and recheck. Always check oil levels but seeps don't drain the tank so to speak. The old saying is, when you can't stand to see the oil spots on your driveway, start replacing seals and gaskets, otherwise live with it. Just saying. Good luck to the OP

Saw a Youtube video suggesting that inspecting valve cover bolts, specifically on the driver side, was the fix. Lo and behold, my bolts were loose enough to take off with just my fingers.

I retightened the two bolts and checked the passanger side too but those were fine. I still tightened them a bit more. So for whoever is interested or some poor guy in a few years, this might be your answer too.

I will let ya'll know at the end of this week.

I didn't mean for this to become a valve cover thread. I really thought it was the oil pan, as per my trusted mechanic. Thank you for the helpful threads though.
