Hey everyone,

first of all, i would like to emphasize the fact, that i am aware of an already existing thread within the Ecoboost subforum, still i feel like its apropriate to once again talk about it here.

I was contemplating on removing the insulation blanket, mainly because of two reasons. One - whenever i wash the car, it keeps getting soaked up and emitting wettness for a long, long time. Two - i think its really ugly, and i know theres a pretty pony underneath it.

Now i realize the fact, that it is there for both sound insulation reasons and in case a fire errupts. Other than that, what are the downsides of removing it? Will i get a problem during the rain? I would love to hear the opinions from fellow mustang drivers, who removed that thing.

thanks for reading and thanks for your answers
(English is not my main language, so please bear with me)

I've removed it on several vehicles with no adverse effects.
However, on my Focus ST, the engine noise was significantly louder with the insulation removed. Not that that was a problem, I'm just saying......

sounds great!
Does the engine noise get much louder? And if so, is it possible to reattach the blanket, just in case?

don't lose or break the mounting clips, and don't fold up the blanket to crease it.
It will go back on faster than it came off if you want to replace it.

I haven't really looked into it, but can you have the best of both worlds? Remove the blanket. Then hope there is an imprint on the back side, trace outline with silver sharpie, cut out logo area and reinstall.

I'm no mechanic, and new to the mustang, but thought just popped into my head.

edit: I know that doesn't really help with the wet issue, but at least you can see the pony and not have to much more noise

sounds like a very good idea. I think i will get that project started this weekend. Maybe a little bit of engine noise isnt a bad thing, im kind of new to that car aspect. The idea of cutting the blanket is very clever.

Maybe to guarantee an imprint (with a cool engine) shove some blankets in that area so it forces the mat up when the hood is down for like an hour. Then go to town.

The blanket is there to deflect heat absorbed by the aluminum hood.

Removing it will negate that effect; but it's impact doesn't seem to be worth worrying about.

I suppose it'd also have the effect of keeping the hood from becoming engine bay hot, which the paint may not be suited to withstand in the long term. Don't know.

i've heard about the Paint aspect, but then again, the Paint right beside the columns of the engine doesn't seem to be affected by the heat? or am i mistaken?

Probably something like that, or even the whole circle. Tips on how you did that? Was there an imprint left behind?

Can't take credit for that, I just did a Google Image search to give you ideas.

Fair enough, Looks great. I might see If I can do that. Then when I have the blanket off hit the pony with high temp red so it pops with my black car.
