I let a friend drive my car and he had to adjust the seat height. He was already buckled up when he adjustes it and the seat belt went under the lever. We set off, after some calm driving he wanted to bang a couple gears. 1st, 2nd, and trying to go into 3rd the seatbelt raised the lever and the seat back instantly reclined causing him to go back into second.

No damage, just a quick scare and it took a few seconds to figure out what even happened.

Later, when I was driving again, I got in and noticed I did the exact same thing with the belt.

Pictures to follow

Hate saying it, but coming from an aviation background, the fact that's even able to happen is a failure on the designers part. If two people did it back to back, imagine how many it COULD happen to over the years.

I can't believe you'd have the belt crossing any of the controls on the seat ever. Seems like the seat was developed independently of the belt mechanism.

Hmmm I want for a ride just now, I see how it could happen if you adjust the seat and the belt gets caught.

Same thing on regular seats. It's hard to adjust the back because the lever is covered with the seat belt.

huh

Many people will think the "incorrect" seat belt photo is actually correct.

If the seat really did recline while driving, that's bad.

I am trying to imagine seeing a guy racing then all of a sudden you see the driver quickly recline his seat back while he is driving fast.

This is one of those stories that sounds hard to believe where you wish you could see a video

Wow, I completely agree, that is a very odd design flaw for daily use
