Sales have topped 3,300 in Australia and 3,800 in China, a Ford spokesman said

Incentives are part of that difference; Ford increased Mustang incentives by about $500 this year, to $1,535 through July, while Chevy reduced Camaro discounts by about the same amount, to $2,246, according to Autodata.

In addition, Chevy deliberately moved the Camaro more upmarket with the latest generation, discontinuing the base LS trim. The sticker price for the Camaro now starts at $1,755 more than the base Mustang. Chevy also is selling fewer than 10 percent of the cars to fleet buyers.

"For us, it's about the right volume," said Todd Christensen, GM's marketing manager for the Camaro. "Would we like to be the sales leader? Yes, but not at the detriment of other things

The last part is very telling GM would rather make higher profit than sell cars seems someone has lost sight what they are in business for.
Yes. Because I would really expect GM to admit to failing. Kind of how they did it the first time, wait until it's too late. They are losing money from the Camaro sales, there's no way around it. Even with the extra "profit" from the markup they are not selling enough units to keep up with the amount of production it's creating and not selling. No car manufacturer has ever said "hey let's just keep pumping a shit ton of cars out so they can sit on the lots for months and not sell!!". They are losing money regardless of how they try to spin their business voodoo words. They might not be losing money as a WHOLE but for that segment I really doubt they are achieving what they had hoped for.

As we all expected, some of the Mustang sales that didn't happen in the US in September were shipped overseas to fill the backlog.

European Mustang sales jumped from 961 in August to 1,311 in September. Mustangs 5th best month out of 18.

Camaro dropped from 88 in August to 81.
