Purchased a PMAS cold air intake a few months back and the filter has already turned white. Is this normal? Does that mean the oil on the filter has worn away?

I have Roush heat extractors and wonder if the water getting in has caused this.

They fade to a grayish/white color and it doesn’t take very long. I’m about to clean mine and reapply a little oil

you could block off the hood vent, i live in florida took less than a week of rain to wash mine out. i put one of those filter socks over it, but i havent looked at it in months

Yeah I thought about doing that. Doesn’t someone make one that fits perfectly in the vent hole?

I got sick of oiling my PMAS filter, one of the reasons it had to go.

You can also run a pre-charger wrap to keep moisture and dirt off the filter.

I use a K&N item. Model 22-8022PK is big enough to fit the PMAS filter element.

FWIW. I now run a GT350 CAI with an Airaid GT500 filter (dry) and im much happier, even if im maybe down a few BHP over the PMAS.

Looks 1000x better, too. :)

Not sure if this adds value to the chat but here in Australia, we don't get the bonnet vents. I've had the PMAS installed for over 6 months (4,000miles), still looks pretty darn close to how it came out of the box.

I don't drive mine in the rain... and it still turns white. I think there's still oil on there, so I don't fret too much.

RubyRed PP does the AFE kit work well?
I've been looking for a kit with aerosol spray to put oil on my filter, instead of using the kit that squirts it on. K&N's kits spray oil on and it is SO much easier to get even. I always spray on and dab off the excess.

Well I have not used it but was reading another thread that suggested it, if you want the blue oil.

How the heck did you get the K&N prefilter on...I bought it and it doesn't seem to fit?
