Wheel to strut clearance doesn't need much, not as much as tire to strut depending on how much sidewall 'bulge' is present. My guess - 1/8" should be enough and 3/16" plenty for most fitments.

FWIW, I've run tighter clearances than those on my S197 without issue (with tires mounted on max-recommended wheel widths). Not everybody would be comfortable with less than 1/16".

I have a good 1/4 of an in plus a 5mm spacer if I need it,they say 6.5 to 8 turns on the lug. What do you think?

Not enough. Even one diameter's worth of full-form threads ends up being at least 10 full turns (end threads are not full-form all the way to the end).

Some food for thought . . .

5mm spacers are usually fine on stock lugs.

I wouldn't run the spacers unless you need to run them, because you're really prefer to have more thread engagement and be close to the struts than have plenty of strut clearance but very little thread engagement.
