I searched but haven't found a thread discussing this or online for that matter, so I want to ask the community.

Does anyone have any suggestions on which filters are preferred or does it matter.

Car is primarily a Daily Driver.

I use motorcraft. They are actually pretty good of an oil filter.

As you could imagine, when the platform was new, this was a huge topic. There was a thread a long time ago, probably buried in history but this is what I took from it:

Purolator
PL10241 (stock size replacement)
O.D. 2.98
Height 3.36
Threads 3/4-16
Relief Valve P.S.I. 12-15
Type of Filter Spin-on

PL20195 (larger) **** BEST
O.D. 2.98

The Bosch 3330 below is really good price/performance. The filtering media is a blend of synthetic and cellullose media, which means good filtering and high flow rate. I'm sure the filters above are going to be good as well, as long as you buy one designed for synthetic oils you will be fine.

I run the Motorcraft FL-400S or the Purolator Boss PL20195. I run them on all of my EcoBoost cars. For a more budget oriented filter, the FL-400S is an excellent choice and has done very well in testing (see BITOG). For the best filter, I use the Purolator Boss. Purolator is at the top of the game in filters and you'd be hard to beat them for the quality, construction, and performance.

I'd never heard of the Boss before, always used the Purolator One. Yesterday I was at Pep Boys getting my oil and filter and the row for the PL20195 was empty. I went over to the counter to ask if they might have any in the back, they didn't but I saw the Purolator Boss filters behind the counter and got one, they rate them for 15k miles, not that I'll do that...

The part number is similar, PBL20195 and was about $11 if memory serves.

The PureOne was their top-of-the-line filter. Now, it's the Boss. The Boss filtering media is full synthetic whereas the PureOne is now a partially synthetic filtering media.
