The pony emblem has dropped off my 2016 ecoboost. I've bought a replica 65 filler cap to modify to a trunk emblem.
My question are: how thick is the black deck lid? and can I get access to the rear of it by taking off the trim in the trunk?
If it works I'll post pics.
Thanks in advance.

This might help.

Yes that helps. I know now that I have sheet metal to drill through as well as the deck lid. Thanks
I just need to confirm I can get access to the body behind the deck lid by removing the trunk trim.

I adapted the filler cap with some bolts and used a painted aluminium disc to hide the old holes. I'm quite please with the look of it.

Aren’t there new replacement panels with no holes available at a fairly inexpensive price?

I agree they made it look nice, some may just want an easier way without the extra work of fitting a disc and may not have that kind of knowledge, skills, or experience.

I used a table leg bracket. Drilled it out to take two bolts (welded in). I screwed this assembly to the inside of the filler cap after removing the fuel cap innards.
the hardest thing was aligning the holes for the decklid and aluminium disc. I was lucky and got it right first time.

If someone wants to steal it they will have to disassemble the rear of the car!
