New to this board so excuse my ignorance.

Ordered my S550 in november, estimated delivery date is around July, wondering if this means i'll get the new 2018 model. I'm not really fussed which one I get i just want to ask if i do get the 2018 whats bad about DI? more fuel economy + more power? fail to see the negative here.

I would say you'll still get a 2017 model since as rumors go, 2018 model has so many changes including some major equipment upgrade to the s550 and the engine is different as well. So, I'll say you'll get a 2017 then.

The 2018 will have port and direct injection so it will be able to have a higher compression ratio and still keep its valves clean by the port injection. Look up VW, BMW, Audi, Mazda valve coking. I would say you're probably getting a 2017 Mustang with the old 5.0 so if your car really isn't on the lot by summer why not wait for the 2018?
Firstly, thanks guys for replying.

I'm going to wait to see if there is an announcement at the Detroit Show about the 2018 model, if it's official might call my ford dealer and see how i can opt into a 2018 model, I'm ok to wait a tad longer if it means I'll be getting the next generation.

I've heard that they only build the car 3 months before expected delivery, so if mines due in July, they will likely start building it around April. Doubt it would be the 2018 model.

Not to mention, production usually ends around the end of June, with retooling in July and production in August. This could be pushed back a bit if the 2018 requires more retooling, but I would not bet on a 2018. You'll get your 2017.
