If you are paying cash you need to make sure the cash is in the dealer's account the day before you pick up.

If I understand your question right... Your best payment choices are

1. Transfer funds to the dealer bank account a few days in advance.
2. Have finance arrangements for the outstanding balance pre-arranged a few days in advance with the dealer and sign on collection.
3. Cash which I have done in the past but anything more than a few £K is impractical to count properly as you have to do it together and most dealers won't accept that much cash on the premises.
4. Pay with a credit or debit card on the day which is by far the most straightforward, just make sure you count the zeros on the chip and pin machine and don't forget your PIN
5. ...and any combination of the above.

I challenged the dealer on this issue a while back and have an email confirming that price to pay is that at the time of ordering (April in my case).
