I bought a 16 gt premium at iaa auction. Unbeknownst to me it had a hard hit to the k member and jammed it into the harmonic balancer and broke the oil filter. I got the filter and stuff replaced. Removed the k member. When I start it almost acts like it's firing on 1 cyl. Barely starts and super rough. You guys think the wreck could of caused damage to motor itself. I checked all wiring coils cleared all codes. Car has 4800 miles

If the harmonic balancer was hit hard enough there's not only the possibility of a damaged balancer, but the crank snout itself could be damaged.

When it's running, is the harmonic wobbling?

My thoughts also. No there's no noticeable wobble

What DTC codes are you getting? It has to have codes if it's idling as such.

Have you checked for any damaged harnesses or wires within harnesses that were near points of impact?

Hello; I have two friends who buy the salvage vehicles and have for years. One bought a Nissan maxima with a manual trans. It had been hit hard enough to break off a mounting point or two on the engine. He had it repaired and put back together. For some reason it never shifted quite right and the clutch did not feel right. It was drive able.

I would be guessing as to why it seems to be running on only one cylinder. So here is a wild guess. These modern engines use sensors to tell the computer where the moving parts are in relation to each other. Crank position sensors, cam sensors are two that come to mind. I would check such sensors and the wiring to the sensors. It could be the hit affected the sensors or the wires.

I would also be concerned about the condition of the crank shaft. That sort of blow directly onto the crankshaft could transfer to the internals. Question- did you replace the harmonic balancer?

Hello; there is a thread about the balancers having been changed on the engines, I did not bookmark it tho. Even if you figure out the miss fire, it might be worth a closer look at the dampener. There is a reason a dampener is slowly pressed on and off with a tool and is not driven onto the crankshaft.
Good luck with the project.

I would be most concerned about how long the car ran with a broken oil filter starving the engine of oil.

Are you trying to run it as seen in the pic or is there a lot more that has been fixed from that pic? There's many disconnected harnesses there.

It's sounding like your ECU doesn't have any idea how much air is entering the engine, and doesn't know how manage fuel because of it. Not sure if the 5.0 uses MAP or MAF, but I don't even see an airbox in the picture.

Odds are it didn’t run any after the oil filter was broken. After a wreck like that, the car turns itself off and it was probably pulled up on a rollback and dropped at the yard. Should be fine
