1yr salary emergency fund? Nope...I'd like to see a side poll that asks how many people are also maxing out their 401ks and Roth IRAs, and have a 1-year-salary emergency fund.

i'm 28 at 80k, i swear it still feels like dirt, i'm a plumber. I probably complain more now than when I was making 50k. I too wanna start some sort of business, its 2 different types of people, millionaires and 9 to 5ers. it's really starting to settle in, hitting a plateau of making 100k+ a year... I don't think I can live like this when i'm 40 having someone cut my check. it's driving me crazy. I have a store front, I was thinking about opening up a box and packaging material store?? something super cheap to start up esp. since i have no overhead expenseOut of everyone ITT, I'm most envious of you. Can't believe you can make that much by doing photography...
I'm 25 and make ~80k. I really want to work for myself but I need some kind of change in mentality to take a risk and get started. Thankfully my better half makes the same as me and as a household we do above average for the area we live in.
Man, company match must be so sweet. I put in 10% of my check, employer only contributes something like $1 an hour.speaking of roth IRAs, i just contributed 11000 to it in 4 months. i just started the accounts and caught up. can't wait for the last contribution for 2014 so i can ease into the normal contribution rate spread out over 12 months for 2 accounts.
now maxing my 401k, dunno bout that, because i can contribute up to 50% to it. i'll keep it at the company match for now.
I makeLol guess there was no need to have an anonymous poll since everyone is so eager to throw those big ol salaries out there
it's not that great, i think they only match up to 4 or 6 %, i forgot whichMan, company match must be so sweet. I put in 10% of my check, employer only contributes something like $1 an hour.
Mine is like that also. They surely don't match what I put in.it's not that great, i think they only match up to 4 or 6 %, i forgot which
yep they do some bs like 100% match up to 4% then 50% match from 4-6%Mine is like that also. They surely don't match what I put in.
Around 2200, give or take. How many hours did you have to bill last year to make that?
Yeah, I know right...Lol guess there was no need to have an anonymous poll since everyone is so eager to throw those big ol salaries out there
Trust me I know it. I'm in the Miami area and it's almost that bad, just not everywhere like NY. My whole immediate family on both sides of the parents are New Yorkers.Yeah, where you live matters a lot. I was thinking of moving closer to my office... but here's the type of one-bedroom apartment you can get here for $3,400 a month.

$1800 plus utilities. It's 1800 sq ft or so 3/2.5. It's also WAY inland in farm country (yes that exists in FL believe it or not) closer to the everglades than ocean. And this is a steal price too that I signed an extended lease for so got locked in. These are going for about $2,000 rent right now. Closer to the water, good luck getting anything like this. It's all tiny condo highrises and anything near this size would be $6,000 a month. For perspective, my 1/1 850sq ft on the ocean in an older condo building was $1650 rent (and that was a good price too, they wanted $1800 after I left). The more inland you go the more affordable.$2050 utilities included for a townhouse in South Florida?!?!?! I should have taken the Florida Bar...:frusty:
That's the thing about New York -- yes, everybody complains about how pricey it is, but the salaries are a lot bigger too. The person who answers telephones for me makes $60K. My sister works as a waitress and averages about $1,000 a week. So, yeah, rent is unbelievably high, but decent jobs pay a lot more here than elsewhere.Trust me I know it. It's close here. A cheap 1 bedroom is $1650-1800. I got lucky and moved inland from the ocean and have a decent 3 level 1800 sq ft townhouse now for $1800 which isn't bad. Stuff on the water goes up to $10-12k+ per month for condos though similar to NY.
I wish Miami salaries matched the cost of living like NY though. The average salary outside large national law firms here is slightly under $100k with sky high cost of living. I looked to purchase and $400k single family gets you under 2000 sq ft 3/2 that needs work.
