How will we know when the update is finally made available?

If I had a guess, the hold up could be related to the apple system requiring new hardware. Just give me the no hardware required android auto update and I'll be happy!
I agree. The Android Auto doesn't require hardware and is just a software update, so why wait if it is already out on 2017's?

Well, I was just notified that my post on Ford social was rejected because it was a question about a Ford vehicle... WTF?

I think you guys are correct. We Android users could be "live" already if not for the rotten Apples in the barrel.

Total bummer that android won't be out until the end of the year. I've been wanting to upgrade my base to the sync3 pending the android auto update.

It will require hardware from what I understand (a USB port upgrade). I assume that is the holdup.

Apple Carplay requires the USB port upgrade, not Android Auto

This sadden me... i was waiting specifically to the 2016 model ONLY from the reason i was told i will get the android auto... i now get the same annoying answer "we dont know when"...
They demo'ed it in CES last year, all 2017 are with it.
we were specifically told the 2016 will have it...
and yet here we are.... first they said "beginning of summer" now its "end of the year"...
this is seriously starting to smell like a group law suit coming up....

Right now Sync 3 in my 16 Fiesta ST and 16 GT350 are buggy as hell with the current 16 build. I heard the build in the 17 isn't great either. Maybe they're working on an update to the build in the 17's and will release it to the 16 owners at the same time. Ford really needs to get their software development game on point in this digital world. They tried to blame Microsoft for MyFord Touch and things aren't much better with QNX. The QNX solution just has faster hardware.

The software running my wife's 2016 Durango RT is extremely well done. Hopefully Ford can get this on par.

I think they need to update the website, it still states:

"Note: Apple CarPlay is available on 2017 model year Ford vehicles with compatible SYNC 3. Owners of 2016 model year Ford vehicles with SYNC 3 are required to perform a software upgrade and purchase a hardware upgrade to use Apple CarPlay. Please check back on the Ford Owner site this summer for more information about these upgrades."

So did they rescind the availability for 2016's or does that just mean they still don't have a release date set
