My 19x10 SVE350 wheels are coming next week. I need help deciding between 285/40/19 or 285/35/19 for a square setup with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. I'm lowered on Steeda Progressive springs. Should I be concerned about rubbing or other issues for either of the sizes I'm considering?

I know the 285/35/19 is a popular choice but I'm reluctant about going with the 35 side wall because I don't want to sacrifice ride comfort too much. I think that the 285/40/19 will be the right balance between performance and ride comfort but I'd like to your guys' advice for what might be the best tire for me.

A 285/35R19 has only 0.10" shorter sidewall than the standard stock 255/40R19 front tire on the GT and GT PP.

Regarding ride comfort, you'll probably notice a little less comfort from 1.20" wider tires with 2.40" of additional contact area, and wheels that increase the front track by 1.40".

I know these are the popular setup right now, but rest assured, your car will not drive or ride the same as it did with the stock wheels and tires.

Believe it or not, MMR 19x10's squared with 285/35 Indy 500's rides better and feels more controlled than my OEM 18's with the stock GY 235/50's did. Wife said the same thing when she went for a ride the first time...and it's definitely the first car I have ever put larger/wider wheels and tires on that rode better!

To answer your question, 275/40 or 285/35. 285/40 would be too tall.

Appreciate all the responses! Going with the 285/35/19 size all around then.

I'll offer a vote for 285-40-19 although I haven't seen that setup on a car yet.

I went from a PP wheel set up where the rear was 275-40-19 to 285-35-19 and lost almost an inch of height on the rear such that the wheel gap is more than it was before (I'm lowered 1" all around). The rear gap is more than the front too now where it was even before.

When these tires are due for replacement I'll have to seriously research a 40 series setup.

If you're doing it for ride comfort, I doubt you'll notice a change (I didn't) but if you're concerned about the rear wheel gap, you might want to see if you can do a test fit at the shop.

I think you'll be happy.

Michelin tires in general fall toward the upper end of comfort ratings, and the A/S 3+ continues this trend.

On the matter of size: 285/35-18 Michelin PSS's (max performance summer) ride pretty decent for what they are. Even on a stiff-riding stick-axle car with them mounted on max-width wheels. Ride comfort-wise, the inch diameter difference doesn't mean enough to matter.
