Our photographers just caught a new camouflaged Mustang prototype that may be our first look at a 2021 Mustang GT refresh. This comes over a week after we showed what may or may not be a 2021 Mach 1 to replace the Bullitt Mustang.
The latest prototype has the face of the earlier prototype —showing us the general face of the 2021 Mustang. The fascia-mounted light strips have been moved to a higher position on the front bumper, closer to the headlights. The outer air intakes are covered in camouflage, but it’s clear that they have been reshaped.
The prototype pictured here has what appears to be the Mustang GT grille but it is rocking a single-tipped dual exhaust setup, instead of the GT’s quad-tipped set-up. The entire rear is once again, completely covered in camo wrap, and looks to obscure an all-new rear lip spoiler. The headlights and tail-lights have been unchanged, suggesting that the changes won’t extend to the lighting.
The latest prototype is equipped with Brembo brakes, but the wheels are a BBS-style interlace, and are curiously wearing Lincoln logos.
As we've learned, the S650 Mustang is scheduled to arrive in 2022 as a 2023 model year, with start of production (SOP) currently planned for May 1, 2022. The 2021 refresh should provide a nice layover until the next generation Mustang arrives in a few years.
