Since R comes with Track standard, doesn't it look like you can actually buy an R model with more options than a base GT350? Track + Tech where base you can only get one or the other?

Wishful thinking but I doubt it. FPC engine that will be limited production, bigger and better brakes, better tires, all new front end body work, carbon fiber composite core structues up front, upgraded trans over the 5.0, more stout rear suspension, sync 3, better recaro seats isn't justifiable by 11 grand. I would be incredibly shocked if the car starts below 50K. Wouldn't be upset, I just don't think it's realistic.

Then comes the track pack or tech pack with their price tags

I hope you're right. Ford would sell a lot of GT350s if they can make money at that price! A ton of people would swap out their regular GTs and move from the competition.

I think it's more likely that the base will be in the neighborhood of $47k or $48k (or higher), but with a base corvette being $54k, there isn't much upward room for the car. The GT350 will be a special car, but still a Mustang and it won't have all the things a corvette does as far as light weight and handling goes. The potential appeal of the car as I see it is that it can be a performance bargain. It certainly won't compete as a top fit and finish entry into the market. So if the price is too high the only reason to buy it is the Shelby name or other Ford fanboi type intangibles. FPC is cool, but not so much power that there aren't alternatives in this price range.

I'm very interested to see what happens as I can make arguments for several different strategies, and I don't know anything about the costs involved in the Voodoo and body panel development/manufacturing.

I know that I'm debating GT350 vs. 'vette vs. upgrade my 2015 GT. Depending on the price, I can add a blower, gears and better wheels and tires to my car for a lot less money than going to the GT350. I can also end up with way more power and a faster car in my normal driving. If the price of the GT350 is too high I'm sure many other people will do the same math and make a similar decision.

Gt500 had an msrp around $55k, I can't see the GT350 being cheaper given just how much nicer of an overall car it is
You know the GT500 has the big bad 662 HP engine! The GT350 is the little brother compared to that. It can be nicer and lap faster around a track a big BUT, on a drag race the old big brother would spank the hell out of it! Besides the new big brother GT500 will also have the goodies and maybe more than 662 hp. So it is reasonable for the GT350 to start lower than last years GT500.

UPDATE: Ford wasn't willing to elaborate on Mustang6G's pricing report, with spokesperson Said Deep simply saying, "We haven't announced pricing at this time."

Little brother also has a much more advanced and capable engine. The 5.2 Voodoo is like comparing a iPhone 6 to a Razor phone. The 5.8 Trinity was a very strong motor but was also a very OLD based engine.

Historically the GT350 was never the 1/4 mile king, that is part of the reason Ford and Shelby partnered up again to make the 67 GT500 and Ford broke off in 68 to make the 1968.5 428 Cobra Jet cars.

If you buy a new GT350 as a drag car you're almost critically dense.

My point is as a price point GT350 shall fit in between a GT and a GT500 if Ford is planning on bringing back the GT500!

Back in the day you were jumping from a 420 hp to a 662hp car for $22,000 difference! The performance gap even on the roadcourse for those two cars were significant.

Now you have a GTPP which can even rival M4 and other high spec cars! If the price difference is going to be $23,000 more than a GT with current specs, then i would expect the same performance gap between the old gt and gt500 from GTPP vs GT350! Which will put the GT350 as in a Nissan GTR rival gategory! Which will be amazing!

I agree it makes sense for Ford to leave room for a future GT500 in their pricing strategy. It would need to compete with the Hellcat and that starts at $60k, so it makes sense for a fully optioned GT350 to be below that mark.

The GT350 also hasn't had any history about it yet. You're all going to be the guinea pigs to provide the information on long term reliability and performance degradation. That degradation curve might be more severe for an engine where NVH was a major concern during it's developement.

New tech may be more efficient, but not necessarily more reliable in the long term.... You're all about to buy into the real world testing for the next decade...if your car actually survives that long.

Honestly feel dumb I hadn't considered the Hellcat pricing in the equation. I was just thinking they would count out with a GT500 in the Mid 70s but it makes much more sense to keep it at its closest competitors price.

The 5.2 has been extremely harshly tested. I assure you Ford is completely confident that the Voodoo will survive the expected life of the car in stock form when maintained properly otherwise they wouldn't release it for sale or race motor production.

I think you're severely overestimating the handling capabilities and weight of the C7. It's a mid 3400lb car already. And while it handles well, it's not unbelievable or anything. It's faster around the track than a 991S, but that's mainly due to power and grip; not some magical handling magic (same reason for the Z/28 doing as well as it does). The base Mustang has a more advanced suspension design than the C7 and you can bet the GT350 will weigh around that ballpark AND make more power AND have more grip.

While a Mustang isn't going to have the same kind of brand image a Corvette will (especially to 60yo+ white males), I think it absolutely will compete and most likely outperform the C7 Z51.
