Ok I'm too lazy to search my manual. Is the oil we have synthetic that comes stock?

Local company I am considering trying out.

http://www.amalie.com/

I was looking at their 0w40 Elixir....and it's, well, pricey. lol
I've been running Mobil1 in all my vehicles up to now and was also looking at this brand as I've been hearing rumors about it's quality getting lower. Unfortunately none of the local auto parts store chains carry it. But yeah, it's not that cheap on their website for a box of 5W-20 gallon jugs.

After some consideration, I've decided to stop using Motorcraft 5W-20 semi-syn and have switched over to Rotella T6 full synthetic 5W-40. So far, so good. No discernable change in mileage. It rarely gets anywhere close to redline and spends 95% of it's life on my daily 70+ mile highway commute to work. I already use T6 in my Audi A8 so this simplifies my oil inventory quite a bit.

Best,

Getting the first oil changed next week (should be at about 7900 miles, about 1 year of ownership) and getting it done at the dealer with Motorcraft full synthetic. Had it done every 8-10k or so on my 2011 Taurus and I had 60k on it when i traded it in. It worked well for me in the past. Used Mobil 1 on my 2011 Mustang every 6k and after reading a few oil analysis it really doesn't make too much sense for me to use Mobil 1, so ill save some money and stick with what came in the car from the factory.

Another vote for Amsoil 5W-20. It has the lowest NOACK rating of any 5W-20. This is important because direct injection engines like the Ecoboost suffer from oil deposits on the intake valves. The low NOACK value means less of the oil evaporates and ends up as deposits on the intake valves.

Funny thing is I run 5W-20 Redline in my wife's Explorer Sport. It also is a low NOACK oil, but less so than the Amsoil. Redline is less impacted by fuel dilution than Amsoil, however. It is also less likely to break down at high temperature conditions that turbo motors can see when driven hard.

I'm also a fan of the Pennzoil Platinum Ultra oils and the Ford Motorcraft 5W-20s. But only in non-direct injection applications due to their NOACK ratings.

If you want to really learn about motor oil, spend some time on ... http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

I have put about 2k miles on my car with Pennzoil Platinum and so far I have no complaints!

Since I don't drive enough miles in a year to warrant 2 oil changes, I was wondering if I should still do so. The car is mainly driven on the weekends.

I was thinking of changing my oil every 6 months, which means my next oil change would be this July.

What do you guys think? Is this overkill? Please spare me the whole "waste of money" argument... ~$50 per oil change isn't a big deal! :headbonk:

EDIT: I use the OEM Motorcraft FL-500S filter.

I guess there were 100k answers to this question but again - any issues with the warranty if I replace the oil myself?

Nope. Keep the receipts and use the recommended oil and you're fine.

I choose to ignore the oil recommendation and I'm going to supercharge it anyway so I'm not overly concerned about the warranty. If I break it, I'll fix it or just toss in a Ford Racing crate engine. :)

Good Filter, and 2 times a year is fine if you don't drive it much. But, when you drive it in the winter do you drive it long enough to evaporate all the moisture that condenses in the engine in cold climates?
