So is anyone worried their hood is going to break free?

One way to test for hood shake at legal speeds is on a 2-lane 55mph highway. When you pass a big semi going in the opposite direction, watch your hood/fender seam right when the air blast hits you.

I ran without the rubber gasket under the front edge of the hood for a while, and it shaked often at normal speeds. After replacing the gasket, the behavior returned to normal.

In another thread, someone fit extra gaskets between the headlights and hood. He said that it helped. It's on my to-do list somewhere out of the top ten.

I realize this thread is a year old, but I noticed my hood fluttering a bit at around 110 MPH the other day. Found this thread, adjusted my hood stops to show 2 lines and it cured the problem completely. The stop adjustments from the factory were almost totally screwed down with no lines showing.
One of the first things I did when I got the car. I took them completely off then reseated them. I kept adjust them until you could barely shut the hood freely without having to put pressure down on it. Once you get that tight-snug feeling when close the hood it should be a lot better.

Was with a friend over the weekend and he noticed the shaking at normal highway speeds.. Then we did a 130+ pull and it was shaking badly... Of course he had to say something about the build quality (euro guy).

It's been annoying me ever since... Pretty embarrassing imo.

Then fix it. It takes 5 minutes.

On my way to work this morning I had an open stretch of road. I ran it it out to about 149mph for a few miles. Had to shut her down when I noticed the Sheriff in front of me. Since I lowered my car, not as much air gets underneath and I have to say that it did help the hood movement. Still moves but not as much as before. 1.25" in the front, 1" in the rear. I would call it an acceptable amount of movement now.

Funny, Ive been watching this thread with interest, I noticed my hood shakes a little too at speed. A quick adjustment of the bumpers seems to have helped a lot. That being said, this happened to the guy in front of me this morning on my commute:

As others have said, hood struts solve most of the shaking. That and adjust the rubber bumpers at the front of the engine bay so the the hood sits right and keeps contact with the hood.

Mine used to do that, badly. Just rotate the rubber stops where the hood sits near the front of the car counterclockwise until it stops shaking. Mine took two full rotations and it now sits firm even at high speeds.

Easy fix!

I am borrowing this image from GTP to illustrate the part I am talking about, it is the little rubber stump in the middle of the picture:

I think I got lucky. I have cracked 140 a few times and never have had any hood movement without adjusting anything. Maybe the guy who built mine heard about the hood buffeting problems lol:lol:
