How do you no-trailer guys handle the logistics of a breakdown at the track?

If you had a mechanical breakdown or accident at the track and your car is disabled, what do you do?
The mind spins over the various issues and challenges, all while feeling stressed about an unfortunate situation:
  • Track facility closing soon
  • Need a ride into town and an extra hotel stay
  • Hire a long tow to your home
  • Get a ride to your home, and then rent a trailer and/or borrow a truck to haul it
  • Etc.

I have a friend that tows his track-only car, but even if I shadowed his track schedule and put my broken car on his trailer, his track car is not legal to drive on the roads. Or I could call the wife, but that's asking her to rent a trailer, hitch it up, buy a winch, and drive 200 miles to come get me.

AAA and Hagerty offer 100 miles of towing, but what would an additional 100 miles cost?

Just thinking in advance and hoping I don't jinx myself. I tried search but did not find any relevant hits.

Maybe it is not available anymore but my AAA has unlimited miles.

This is what I do, but if I were to go to a track 250 or more miles away I would trailer or drive very conservative at the track.

Been handling this by not running into a wall so far 😆 .

A trailer with a winch is the only real answer in my opinion. WGI has a special parking lot for crashed cars and keeps it there until you sort out track related repair costs.

You mean they hold the car as collateral until you pay for the wall you hit?

Kind of what I've heard. I see few smashed cars sitting there every time I visit it.

I think at the very least they also allow to store them there, but that is just my speculation.

Called a tow truck and got a ride back home from a friend that attended with me. Another time I drove my friend's trailered car home while he towed my broken down car in his trailer.

Moral of the story...don't go to the track alone or make friends there.

I'm thinking something like this.

Even Better! Driving to the track in your street car is a non-starter. Too many things could make it a long weekend.

You guys are not confidence inspiring. I'm about to drive 1,000 miles each way to a track event.
You got more confidence or bigger balls than I.

I weigh the cost of a truck and trailer versus a tow truck to get me home. The tow truck is cheaper every time.

Finally needed to activate the tow truck contingency this last time though.

Edit to add: This was just a broken axle.

This guy left it there at the track for a day or two until he decided what he wanted to do with the car.

Rent a uhaul truck and trailer. Or at least reserve one where ever you're going so just in case you need one then cancel it if you don't need it. Lol
