2018 Mustang Spied Testing Again

A little more than a week after we showed you the first 2018 Mustang prototypes, two more prototypes (technically, one donor mule) have once again been spied testing on public roads.

The first is a 2018 Mustang mule fitted with a strange mocked-up hood bump. Since we are not expecting any major engine additions for the 2018+ Mustang GT with the exception of the 5.0-liter potentially receiving a combination of port fuel injection with direct injection, the fabricated appendage on the hood likely has little to do with engine improvements.

Instead, it has been suggested by M6G members to be attached to the hood solely for the purpose of providing clearance for test instrumentation.

The test mule also shows substituted front headlights in place of the current production headlights with the tri-bar “shark gill” daytime running lights. While clearly just a prototype unit we are not expecting this to be a sign that Ford will eliminate this signature S550 headlight feature.

Also spotted today was a 2018 Mustang convertible prototype. While largely similar to the fully-camouflaged fastback seen last week, this one is our first look at the soft top version and does provide a slightly clearer view of the new headlights peeking out from the front fascia disguise.
