U.S. Versus European Mustangs: Key Differences

Ford Mustang sales in Europe have exceeded even the most optimistic expectations among Mustang fans, with the iconic pony car becoming the best-selling sports coupe in the world in 2015 including some European countries, only a year after sales began in the region.

While the U.S. and European versions of the S550 Mustang have more similarities than differences, a combination of European safety legislation and homologation requirements have led to some significant changes for the European specification Mustang.

From major differences such as lack of 3.73 final gear ratio option and the loss of 25 horsepower in right-hand drive models due to more restrictive exhaust headers (as a result of the different steering packaging requirements) — to more benign differences such as the clear taillight lenses, different colored side reflectors and larger door mirrors, the changes made to the European Mustang may be considered big or small depending on where you live.

Car Throttle has posted a video summarizing 10 key differences between the U.S. and European specification Mustang. Check out the video in the forums.
