As Mustang enthusiasts, we are spoiled by the myriad special edition vehicles and different flavors of Mustang available for every type of palette. It is of course one of the favorite pastimes of Mustang fans to dream up what future plans Ford may have in store for our favorite pony car.
With the S550 Mustang only one year into its platform life it is perhaps not surprising that there is already media chatter about the timing of the first refresh and other component upgrades.
Is it too early? Sure. Is it fun to discuss? You bet.
Automotive News recently reported that the sixth generation Mustang will receive its first cosmetic makeover — namely a new front fascia, as well as a 10-speed automatic transmission for the 2018 model year vehicle.
Speculation has also been given as to upcoming special edition Mustangs as they cite a source claiming that Ford will offer a Mach 1 edition S550 around the same time as the refresh.
Of course, we can’t forget the GT500 will also make a return on the S550 platform and a good bet that it will arrive in time for the 2018 makeover, with a new Mach 1 coming sooner than rumored (along with the 10-speed auto transmission).
