Hot Laps in the Shelby GT350R at Monterey Historics Laguna Seca

If you have been following along, you know that the Ford Performance team has been keeping its word on bringing the new Shelby GT350 and GT350R to various tracks around the country and letting enthusiasts experience these vehicles before it has made its way to dealerships.

M6G member fuhrius attended the Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca this past weekend during the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Shelby GT350 Mustang.  While walking the paddock, he got to take in all the sights and sounds including one race with a run group entirely dedicated to the original 1965 and 1966 Shelby GT 350 Mustangs.

Fuhrius came upon the new GT350 display and met perennial enthusiast favorites Jim Owens (Shelby/Boss brand manager) and Gene Martindale (Vehicle Dynamics Engineer), among others. The display included five GT350 vehicles and all manner of parts for all to touch and see — from brake calipers and rotor, oil pans, etc.

To top it off, Jim Owens allows Fuhrius and his son to ride along in two hot laps in a new GT350R to find out first hand how this vehicle is a true “step change” improvement from the already fantastic Boss 302.
