GT350 Kooks Long Tube Headers and Exhaust System

For the past few weeks, Kooks Headers and Exhaust has been in development of the first long tube headers for the new Shelby GT350 Mustang.

With the help of M6G member ITLRUN (Joe Charles) and his Triple Yellow 2016 GT350 Mustang with Track Pack, nicknamed “Yelanor” Kooks is working to finalize a full exhaust setup including 3″ X-Pipe, 1 3/4” to 1 7/8” stepped headers, and a pair of 3” Connection Pipes with Green Cats.

If you haven’t been following along on the forums, two weeks ago Joe dropped off his freshly delivered GT350 (with only 70 miles on the odometer) at Kooks’ facilities in Statesville, North Carolina. From there it went to nearby Roush Yates Engines for a baseline dyno before Kooks got to work.

Kooks had a prototype header built months in advance of the arrival of Joe’s production-GT350 so it could hit the ground running on product development.

One of the challenges for the company was to overcome any potential NVH issues that could arise when mated with the GT350 5.2L flat plane crank engine.  To that end Kooks has been working closely with a race team using the Voodoo engine in competition and we are hopeful to hear reports that they have addressed vibration issues with the new setup.

While we await the final design, Kooks helps us pass the time by releasing a teaser video of the prototype exhaust setup during a test idle to open throttle run.  The ferocious sound heard in the video is even more impressive as it uses the stock axle back exhaust and OEM mufflers.

Watch the video and stay tuned here as Joe will be reporting on the preliminary power results when they come in from the Roush Yates dyno throughout the next few days. He also looks to add a JLT Performance CAI and tune when he finally gets his GT350 back to Georgia.
