^^^ I’ve been using hockey pucks for years on hydraulic floor jacks. Also use them for woodworking projects when I need the piece off the bench. Pucks are cheap too!
+1. I can buy a heckuva lot of hockey pucks for $69.99. Two hockey pucks screwed together, with the top one cut in half and a 1/2" section removed from the middle, make for a perfectly functional jacking pad. I use it with my other car that has a pinch weld jacking location too.

Is it the pinch weld that is doing the lifting, or the horizontal flat surface above the weld?

Pinch weld. It doesn't touch the floor pan.

What about jack stands? With rails you can lift and still have room for jack stands near the lift point. How do you handle that with jack pads?

Pads don't give a much benefit to jack stand placement. I have lifted the whole side of the car using just the front pad and place a jack stand under the rear pad. Normally I still place stands under the front cradle and rear suspension mounts.
