I am considering buying a downpipe second hand. The downpipe has a 3 inch slip connector and the foreseeable future I'll be running the stock cat back. I can get and adapter from the manufacturer for about $90 shipped. That seems like a lot to spend on what is essentially a 90 elbow with a v band flange welded on the end. So, I was thinking through what other options might be out there. Then, I remembered reading the post below and had an idea.

Because the dp has a slip joint I wouldn't need the v band flange used in that post. So, I'm thinking I could do dp->resonator->3" to 2.25" reducer->rest of the stock cat back. The best part is that the resonator is essentially the same price as the adapter. So, with a couple additional inexpensive parts I get the additional advantage of a better/lighter resonator. The only things I'm not sure about are 1.) Is there enough room? Based on the pics I've seen, it looks like there is a curve in the stick pipe shortly after the resonator and 2.) I believe there is a hanger right at the downpipe / cat back joint that would be removed. Would that be an issue? It looks like it was removed in the post I linked too.

OK, I just answered my own question. I failed to account for the fact that the factory resonator has 2 outlets. So, it won't work, at least not with that resonator. I knew it was too good to be true.
