Hi Guys,

Still waiting for my car to arrive (March), but have a little question regarding window tinting.

I ordered my oxford white Ecoboost with aftermarket window tint, that will be installed by my dealer before delivery.
Now after seeing lots of pictures of the new stang, I noticed that on many cars it shows a light (white) line, where the tint stops. (Pictures included as example)
After some research, it appears to be called 'Dot-Matrix' line... its the line that follows the window with small dots and where the tinting foil has no grab to.
So you can not tint over these dots, which is why a line is produced.

I personally just hate that look, that screams, "hey I got my windows tinted with some cheap aftermarked foil"...
So yesterday I went to the specialized firm, who is in charge of tinting windows for my dealer, to ask them about the line and if it can be done differently.
They say it's impossible to do it otherwise...
They will not use any trick to cover the dots, and the white line is the only way to go. :frusty:

So I just informed my dealer I will not take the window tint they arranged....
Though I'm sure I have seen cars from other members wich seem tinted fully. There should be a way to do it otherwise...

What are you're opinions and where should I go to have it done properly? I live in Antwerp (Belgium)
Cost is no issue, I'd rather pay 800€ for a perfect tint, than 300€ for a half ass job.

I've done the tint also... and just afterwards I saw the line.... lol nothing to do afterwards.. the Glass is made with that line ... only if you maybe paint the window it will work.. but I don't believe you want to do that xD ahaha

maybe some speciallist can help you :) let's see what the guys say..

You can tint over these dots. But...

The tint will not be as 'tight' on that surface than on the glass itself.
That is why you see these lighter areas.

There are 3 options:

1. Don't tint or accept it :)
2. Remove all dots by hand. You can scrape off the dots with a sharp razor blade.
3. There seems to be a kind of marker that can fill in the gaps between the dots. I did not find any shop where we could buy that marker...

Personally I don't mind the dots. The 'from behind' privacy is well worth it.

On a side note, I've chosen to only tint the rear window of my car, not the two side rears, because the S550 has the one DLO. Even though there's an implied B pillar, I thought it would look better if it wasn't blacked out there. To my knowledge, noone else has done this as I couldn't find any results when googling it. I'll update this thread with pics once I have my car, and we'll see if I had the right idea or not!!

Hello Nicolas05

As I ordered my ecoboost in Vilvoorde (Belgium), can you tell me where you ordered or will order your aftermarket window tint ?

Thanks

It's about the same idea I had... Only the rear window.
But for me the dots, or better the visible line is a real game breaker.

I ordered the car @ Fordstore Permeke in Antwerp. They work together with a local tinting company. Auto glass clinic @ Wilrijk.
I cancelled the tinting for now and I'm looking for an alternative...

You can do "quality glasscoating" like in limo's. A lot nicer, but more expensive. And they have to remove all windows.

At the moment I don't mind, altough till I saw your zoomed in picture :s
Have been looking into that option, but can find just 1 company who would do that, it's located in Veurne.
Have send them 3 emails already, not 1 reply.
I'll have to give them a call, when I have some time.

I've seen pictures of members though where it looked as they didn't have the dot-line. I think it was Jhon577's car.
I'll check with him how he has done it.
