I really hope it's all electric! And flies! Yeah, with a hologram display of the road in front of me, instead of a windshield! Yeah...!

I bet the 2.3L engine will be getting similar upgrades to what the Focus RS has. I see power being bumped up to 330-340 with a more aggressive exhaust note.

Even if all they do is release a 10spd auto it will still be good reason for someone to wait for the 2018 as it would impact both performance and fuel efficiency
Yes, because my primary concern when shopping for a 400+ horsepower V8 sports car was fuel economy. On highway road trips, I'm getting 26mpg with a 6-speed manual and 3.31 gears. You will NEVER hear me complain about the fuel efficiency of this car.

The purpose of the thread is not so everyone can jump in and say why they are happy with what they have now
Talking about what will be new (or not new) with the 2018 might lead many in here to be happy with what they've already got because that model year might not have all that much to write home about in terms of changes. So, by talking about the 2018's potential lack of major revelations, it makes me less excited about it and therefore happier with what I'm currently driving.

Besides, is M6G not an open forum for discussion of opinions? :D

You really just sound like you're concerned about what the 2018 could bring and are attempting to downplay things. You really haven't contributed anything but your insecurity to the thread

Man, I just committed to a LONG term relationship with my 2015 last October, meaning financing through a bank. The 2018 could come with a busty blonde android companion in the passenger seat and a combined coffee maker/beer tap in the glove box and I still wouldn't buy one. Keep looking for my insecurities about this car though. Check the exhaust gases I just spit out while tearing ass down the highway.

I can understand that. Looks like you've sunk quite a bit into aftermarket upgrades as well so obviously you won't be looking to see if they make big changes for 2018 but I will probably be ready to move on (depending on what we know then about the S650 ;)). I got my car in 2014 and financed for 3yrs

The 2018 F150 is rumored to be getting a new diesel powertrain as an option as well as the new 10 speed auto in the raptor. If the F150 is getting big upgrades like that, i don't doubt there are as big upgrades coming to the Mustang for 2018 as well.

Well, if people are only limited to the purpose implied in your thread title, then this thread should have never started because the sum of what we "know" about the 2018 is absolutely zero. A better title would be "what are we speculating about or wishing for on the mid-cycle refresh".

- I'm interested in the V6 convertible, so more options similar to the new Camaro
Good luck with the V6 options. Ford has been pushing the ecoboost brand hard, hence why the V6 is only available in base/rental car spec. They're not going to back down off of that now. Also, most are speculating that Ford will straight up drop the V6 either at the mid-cycle refresh or at the latest when the new S650 generation debuts. When that happens will probably depend on how Ford is doing with their CAFE standards compliance.

Yea I hadn't thought about that but I wouldn't be surprised if they did drop the V6 based on what they said before launch about it being added last minute. It's a good cost leader but since the primary competition (the Camaro) is already priced above the mustang ecoboost is that really necessary?

(edit: actually the Camaro 2.0 will be about the same MSRP as an ecoboost)

There is ALWAYS going to be "the next best thing" in the automotive industry. If you don't eventually settle for something, you're just going to drive yourself crazy waiting for that next thing.
True but just like in technology there are plateaus that make sense waiting for.

Look at the Camaro and what they did vs the last gen. They threw the whole thing into their new model. You're buying a very dated machine compared to what they created. Same with Audi and their new A3/A4/A5 and the new VW platform and also things like their virtual cockpit (if you're into things like that)

Ford on the other hand is doing slow rollouts. The big one is the 10 speed transmission for the autos in the Mustang. That's a plateau that will be around for 8 years at least. Other things are updated gauges similar to the Camaro or F-150, lighter aluminum panels which we knew were built but not put on the current model.

I think the '18 (in fall of '17) is going to be the S550 they should have released at the get go.

My guess on the V6 is that they are probably selling enough of them to the rental agencies so dropping it wouldn't make sense (at least to me).

I also hope there are enough people who prefer a naturally aspirated V6 plus the sound to a Turbo 4, but I could be wrong.

The V6 is being offered on the new Lincoln MKX so I don't see it going away anytime soon.

I really hope Ford doesn't make a habit of this. But I do agree on the plateaus.

A GHG 2018 Mustang 5.0 with 10spd auto and a track pack would be a beast and might just be a little over a year away
