I just found some info on a different model year's part.

Its only 12 lbs.

http://scrs.com/data/uploads/pdf/Ford_Structural_Parts_Fact_Sheet_Final_7-21-10.pdf

2005-09 Mustang List Price (3-26-2010) $176.08 $98.99

Front Bumper Beam Material Boron Steel Mild Steel

5R3Z-17757-AA Material Cost/Pound $57.00 $40.35

CAE Test Performed Weight 11.90 lbs. 11.15 lbs.

Thickness 1.36 mm 1.20 mm

Production Process Cold Rolled / Heat
Quenched / TIG
Welded/Martenized
in production

Welded

Maybe there isnt enough weight savings to justify it.

I don't think it's worth the 600 +. I think we could get a group buy and have a fabricatior to bend some multi cell extruded aluminum beams into front and rear bumper beams for close to a single GT 350 unit.

The only plus is the oem ones may crash better...

Somehow I had the idea that this could be 30 lbs weight reduction.

If its like 10, its not worth the cost to have the bumpers removed :tsk:

Using the ATS as a reference, it is approximately a 10lb savings.

At their current price, it might be best to wait and see if a 2018 MCA happens and they use the GT350 and GT350 R Aluminum bumpers.

Is there a way to safely get weight reduction out of these parts front and rear for reasonable $ ?

I reached out to Benny to inquire about a group buy. Without have someone fab some stuff up. I don't see a great alternative.

I am hoping to have one of Helion's GT 350 Style carbon hoods soon. That's likely to be a 17-20 lbs savings.

Yea pretty excited for it. Lots of work.

Benny mentioned they have to go freight, so that would likely negate most of the savings of a group buy.

Small battery should cut 10-20 lbs.

My information which is pretty reliable shows 11.8lbs.

Do you have a running excel of the stock parts in contrast to the aftermarket parts?
I still need to compile the list of aftermarket parts!!
