Was this installed incorrectly at factory?

It's a spongy rubber like 4" square that's been oozing out from somewhere under engine cover. It's been there since day one. Did it come unglued from something? You can see the corner of square just to lower right of 5.0 emblem..What is it?

I don't know for sure what it is but it looks like a piece of mastick or something on the underside of the engine cover to help dampen vibrations on the engine cover

It hangs downward and tucks under either two pieces of vacuum hose or water line it looks like,,:shrug:

Ok, I will this weekend. All I can think of is maybe it was glued to engine cover but came off under the first engine heat. Sometimes I wanna just grab it and chuck it lol but it might serve a real purpose.

It's a scab and like all scabs it will bother you until you pull it off. How do you sleep with that thing hanging?

It really just looks like some gasket left over form the cover. Pop the cover off and take a look, then rip that sucker off. It's sticky side up shows that it's just some rubber for the cover.

Haha, yes it is like a scab that doesn't heal! This is only the third time my hood has been up and I was just checking my oil level and was reminded of it. This factory oil in the 5.0 is so clean at 1100 miles in can barely make out the mark..Does anyone else have trouble seeing the oil mark on dipstick? It just doesn't seem to pick up the oil well :frusty:
