I really feel like an idiot, but i cannot get the shift pattern aligned. Screwed in the nut, tried adjusting it, but no matter what I do, shift pattern is upside down. Can anyone help? Thanks

You are keeping the jamb nut from spinning as you spin on the knob?

If it's hidden gotta have a nut plus jamb nut ..or a lock nut. If neither put some drag on the nut (vise or crimp) so it is somewhat tight on the thread as it goes on. If none of that works just put some thread lock on the threads, discard the nut and turn the shift knob down to what position you like and let it set up over night. If you go threadlocker make sure you still got reverse collar function.
