Here’s mine. It has a long story, but here goes.

She’s a 69 Chevelle SS 396. It was born a 396 325hp 4 speed car with AC. My dad bought it in 1974, and Daily/raced it all the way up to 1995, when he sold it. Along the way the 396 expired, and in went a crate LS7 (12.25:1 compression, solid lifter 454, rated at 460hp but it had to of been more than that) some suspension tweaks to get rid of wheel hop, and deleted the AC. Around 2002 or so the guy my dad sold it to called him out of the blue saying he was about to sell the car and asked my dad if he was interested in it back, which he was. So he went and drove it back home, where it proceeded to sit for the next 15 years until my dad passed away.He wouldn’t let me do anything with the car as it was “too fast” to let a teenager/early 20 year old drive, even with him riding with me.

So after he passed I brought the old girl home and started cleaning, pulled the 454 and rebuilt it, with a little less compression, ported heads, intake, a little more aggressive cam, and ultimately ended up at 590hp, 595lb ft on a engine dyno at a pump gas friendly 10:1 compression. After seeing power numbers I turned my attention to getting it dropped back in, went through the brakes, cooling system, pretty much everything mechanical was touched. That first drive was a very emotional experience, the car ran great, drove perfect. Put my son in the back seat and we cruised.

it was short lived though, one of the roller lifters seized and took out the cam, I later learned that Comp was having supplier issues with roller hydraulic lifters and it bit me. I haven’t had the chance to get it back up and going yet, but I do have parts gathered to pull the motor, tear it down, hot tank the block and heads, and start over. Hopefully no bore work is needed so I can reuse my rods and pistons, but that remains to be seen.

Well worth the read. Great story attached to the car and I’m sure that’s something your son will cherish as well.

Nice ST as well!

you can see my first red one in the first photo, and my later tripple
Yellow car, that was easily one of my favorite cars I’ve had, I regret getting rid of it sometimes. The GT is a wonderful car, but that ST was more throwable, had just enough power to use just about whenever without go to jail speeds.

Dude, the same words have literally came from my mouth. I had a 2013 and literally miss that car EVERY SINGLE DAY! They’re seriously special cars.
